Fun fact: The Gear Cube was originally called the Danger Cube, because the gears were sharp, and Oskar van Deventer, the creator of the puzzle, kept cutting himself by getting his fingers pinched between the gears.

I also solved gear cube myself and a "breakthrough" moment was when I realized that every gear has 6 teeth, and 6 is not divisible by four... so turning a single side 8 times makes the cube "correct" but with gears 1/3 turns wrong... one more tome and it's 2/3, and the last time it goes back to normal.

The 3x3 gear cube may be an easy solve but it's by far the COOLEST looking cube when you turn it! If anyone comes to your house to visit, just hand the gear cube to them and say "check this out!" They will immediately want to play with it and be mesmerized by the little turning gears. It's difficult to put it down.

Way back when I first started cubing, I spent a few weeks trying to solve the 3x3 without any help. I got the 1st two layers down and I could move some things around on the last layer but I just couldn't get any farther and finally gave up and looked it up. I've always felt lame for having given up on the original 3x3 so now, my whole approach is to figure every new puzzle out without any help no matter what. It's so much more rewarding. Even if my original solution is trash and I end up looking up better ones online _after_ I solve it myself at least once 😛

@@cryolite08 But you are taught how to do it, and even then it can be confusing. For a puzzle that is really really simple, all you do is turn one of the 6 sides of a cube, actually figuring out how to do that is too hard. Rubik took a whole month, and not only did he invent it, but he is also pretty smart.

Hi Dylan. I just wanted to tell you that I have watched your videos and tutorials since I started cubing (a bit less than 3 months ago) and I really enjoy them. I recently taught one of my friends 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL, and I used your way of explaining in your videos (as well as my own ways) to teach him, and he learned it in two days. He was impressed by how fast I could turn and solve the cube (even though I’m averaging around 25 seconds), and that’s why he wanted to learn some of those algorithms. Anyways, I like teaching people stuff I know since it makes me learn it better and we can have a good time together, and when I’m teaching people the Rubik’s cube your videos are extremely helpful, since I learned almost everything I can from you.

This is a MeiLong Clover , not the QiYi clover that Z3 Cubing showed. The QiYi one only turns like a curvy copter. The Meilong solves like a 3x3. From the speedcubeshop description: The MoFang JiaoShi MeiLong Clover is a super fun 3x3 modification! If you are looking to venture into the world of shape mods, this is a great starting point as it solves the same way as a traditional 3x3 cube! speedcubeshop.com/products/mofang-jiaoshi-meilong-clover-3x3

I INVENTED A 2x2 ALGORITHM!!! It is technically a V-Perm on a 3x3, except (U' D) move set. when we reach the U' D set of moves, I turned the cube left and continued the algorithm. This only works when, on the yellow side, two pieces that are diagonal to each other are solved, and the other two aren't solved. I held the cube near one solved piece and did the alg.
@JLCubing

idk if this was already an alg for 2x2, but I just listed it to make sure. I used this while doing Ortega, and it helped.
