Hey Jared. The old 70s and 80s full size vans have rain gutters on them that are extremely long. Could find some in a salvage yard to fix her up.

To expound upon this idea. I would cut the rooves off of at least two of those vans and modify them to fit Honda Rousey. The Chevy G-Series and Dodge RAM vans used the same basic body style from the early 70s on into the 90s.

A Panoramic sunroof from the salvage yard would be super cool in the roof. You could grab that when getting the drip rail from an old bus or large van.

The deeper you dived into the Honda Limo the better it looked. The outer skin had a lot of rot but the basic structure underneath looks sound, at least from above. I would be curious to see what the frame looks like. Some Limo frames are so carelessly kludged together by the coach builders it's scary.

because limo's were never intended to be long term cars. When people rent a limo they want the latest coolest modern car . Once they are more than 5 years old they get worthless. Also the older they get the harder it is to insure them for commercial use. So the better conversion company's put a bunch of iron in them to make it safe bondo them up and really don't care about long term corrosion ect.
@MarchHare59
@MarchHare59 Жыл бұрын
@@davidkassube3060 That was the Chrysler Executive and it was based on the K-platform 83 LeBaron. I'm not sure if the Executives were built in the factory or if they were modified after but there weren't that many built; less than 1500 between 1983 and 1986. I have seen one up close and they're pretty cool.

I saw a limo conversion shop when I was in college. They had "stretch kits" for each car which were basically sections of frame rail or body structure and a set of panels to line up with the existing car. They would literally cut a car in half and attach the stretch parts in the middle.

Might be worth measuring other EF chassis bodies to check if you can fill the puzzle pieces for your roof and doors and get rid of the rusty extension pieces. You might want to gut it out and slip in some bars in place of the unibody roof (acting as roll bars) and build it better that way. With the way they made that it would be interesting how they connected the floor. Good luck!

I think the van rain gutter is an excellent idea. That said, to donor cars can likely give you everything you need. The extra extension in the back as a challenge, but I was thinking the rear clip being installed as one piece would give you better structure. I agree with the older full size vans for drip rails, and if I remember correctly some of the earlier mini vans had smooth roof skins that might work for your new roof, if not then it might be possible to find an early mini delivery van that didn't have the side windows and use a side skin for your roof, seems like it should already be somewhat concave and be easier to adapt than a new flat sheet or 18 gauge.

I disagree. Anyone that has done a full resto on a car with that much rot knows that car is not worth it unless it could sell for $80k when done. You would be just throwing away time and money. Let's be honest, it's not a cool car. It's kind of interesting but too far gone to fix. It was a poorly built car to begin with. So many other vehicles deserve to be fixed. You'd be lucky to get $15k when done. There are questionable moves and just bad moves.

When you get the ribs cut for the roof have some beads ut in them to add a little strength or use some kind of structural shape for them. I would definitely add some temporary structure to keep the thing from moving or shifting too much as you work on it to keep things lined up where they go. LKQ might have what you are looking for for the gutters or know something that would work. I'd like another guy said maybe look for a van at the scrapyard to cut some gutters off. Looks like the bones are still good and am looking forward to how she progresses. Another thing you might consider for the outside area is one of those fairly cheap 10' by 20' portable "garages" they sell at Harbor Freight. Not the highest quality but they do good at keeping the hot summer sun and with some tarps for the sides can help keep the rain and wind off.

rain gutters: go to the older section of copart or junk yard... find an old station wagon, bring cordless death wheel... and batteries... talk as many of them as you can

Still say you'd be better off stretching the better one than repairing this... But good luck and I'll enjoy watching either way!

Great decision to lose the leaking sunroof. That thing was just a disaster trying to be like REAL limos which are also sometimes sketchy. Jared, you can get some long roof edges from an old van.
