The streeters are right; money can only provide temporary, fleeting moments of enjoyment. People usually use money to purchase escapes. You still have to live with yourself. I also think people don't chase money to have more money. It's always to fill some hole/insecurity/unhappiness which is why people who have never stop chasing. The happiest/most content person would not chase money in the first place hence why Buddha, Jesus lived lives of poverty. Crazy to say but the irony of life is if you can't be content when you have nothing, no amount of money will make you arrive at that point. What happens if you lose it/it gets taken away? At the end of the day, you're left with you. I used to fight against this sentiment but when you understand what happiness is, it makes sense. Happiness in itself is a fleeting emotion, not consistent. As such, yes, money can buy happiness. What money can’t buy is *contentment*. Ironically, when you look up contentment, it’s a “state of happiness”. I’d say contentment is more long term but also comes and goes. Just my .02c. Contentment comes from within…rich people suffer from mental illness as well. Money doesn’t shield you from that
