Great to see David back in front of the camera. If I had decided to keep my dad’s 57 F100 I would have thought hard about converting it to electric. A truck that was far from stock with its Buick V6, GM rear end and three on the tree.

23:15 The interesting thing about EV trucks is that when you drive up a mountain unloaded and drive back down loaded, you can actually generate additional energy. You're essentially converting the potential energy of the materials your hauling down the hill into actual driving energy that the truck can use. So you just made a "self-charging" truck. 😛

I would love to see community colleges and vocational schools offer classes on converting existing ice trucks cars and vans to electric vehicles. I could see it being a big industry especially if it could be done inexpensively. A lot of people would love to save older vehicles and be able to daily drive or work out of them.
@brianleeray1
@brianleeray1 Жыл бұрын
The problem is that it cannot, in fact, be done inexpensively. On the podcast they said that this truck has about $30k of electrical parts in it, including $21k of batteries, for 100 miles of range.

Nice part about this is that it’s still the F100/F250 Frankenstein they started with, but with a lot more power, even more torque that comes on even quicker than the 300ci would. I wasn’t surprised by it’s performance at the ranch, but then to be within .5kW/hr of a new Lighting Pro when it comes to electricity use while heading back to their ranch after all that, I thought that was fantastic!

100%. I have an active aversion to acre size touch screens, heated and cooled cup holders, and power butt scratcher/nose pickers. Give me a basic truck, 4wd, 8 foot bed that I can fit a sheet of plywood in and close the tailgate, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, heater and AC. That's it. Stop there. No reason it should cost more than $25k brand new.

I won’t warm up to EVs until they find a better way to make batteries that doesn’t involve child labor in places like Africa, not to mention the batteries are horrible for the environment if not properly dealt with after they are dead.

@@ravioli-bamboli I agree with you on this, not only are they bad on the environment to recycle or dispose of but they're also bad on the environment just digging up the lithium. This is fantastic. What would be the total out of pocket cost for this type of conversion? I really like the idea but don’t know if it’s cost effective enough for me to attempt. With all the sponsors involved, it makes me think these type of swaps at still far too expensive to do for an individual. Perhaps as they become more popular the cost will ease. I currently have a 1964 LWB step side 2WD 3/4 ton that would be a wonderful candidate for this type of swap.
