Acts 19 King James Version (KJV) 19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve. 8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. 9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. 10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

I fear for Protestants when they start using the word “alone”. It’s an intention wedge driver and a trite reduction (error) of theological truth. Christ reconciled us to GOd, but what is the means of our salvation? Me Jesus and the Bible? That’s not correct. Christ founded the Catholic faith. To reject the Catholic faith outright is to reject Jesus Christ. Jesus will be your judge, not me. @@OrthoLou I don’t think it’s our place to speculate on what happens to a persons soul when they are standing before the Lord. If a person rejects the Lord than *they have chosen for themselves* how they will spend eternity. I believe in hell just as I believe in heaven. @@ACatholicWife unfortunately you are wrong to say it's not Lou's place to speculate on souls. If you can read you can see the road to perdition is wide and easy, the road to heaven is narrow and hard. Over and over He states how to get into heaven, none of them ways include "being a good person". They all include Catholic sacraments. Of course God is not limited to that as fr. said, but are you really not taking Jesus's word for it?

@@ACatholicWife as the other 2 commenters said, of course it's not our place to say who IS saved or not... But I believe that by reading the gospels (and even Acts and most of the NT letters), it's safe to say that non-Christians will not be saved (if they die without ever accepting Christ, that is). Afterall... how can His sacrifice be extended to someone who does not believe in Him..? What would be the point of even being a Christian, if we could all just go our own way and wind up being saved in the end so long as we're "good"? To add a bit of clarification: the reason why it is harder for someone who does not have the sacraments to get to heaven is that they often do not view salvation as a process. So they sin and they sin, building up condemnation for themselves while claiming to follow God. The necessity of repentance and humility is often not found in Christian denominations. They also lack the fullness of the faith that would help them. They cannot receive the soul healing power of Jesus in the Eucharist, which gives us rest and prepares us to keep walking the narrow path. They do not have confirmation, which grants a specific seal on the soul of a person. Neither do they have reconciliation, without which mortal sin will not be forgiven without perfect contrition (true sorrow and repentance for the sin committed). They do not even distinguish between gravity of sin, even though scripture does. Christ, as the head of his body the Church is merciful. Through his mercies one may be saved. It would be better to enter into relationship with him through the Church he founded though, as few make it to heaven, and many go down the road of destruction that leads to hell. The Catholic Church has the tools Christ set up and is the primary source of Grace from him, for it is his body.

I try to walk by faith and I would say that I can see where the Lord has worked in my life. Jesus didn't say that you have to be a Catholic to be saved. I embrace all Christians everywhere and pray we can work together to do the Lords work. You know the world needs this more and more day after day.

True James. However, if one recognizes the fullness of truth in the Church and turns away deliberately from it, it becomes problematic since it stirs division among Christians for even Christ did pray in John 17 "that all may be one and brought to perfect unity" Christ didn't say we should all be Catholic- true. But the fullness of truth has been found in the Church. It's worthwhile that we think about these things, take them to heart and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. For even St Paul did say that there should be no dissensions and discord among us but that we should maintain the bond of unity and peace in the Holy Spirit. Remain Blessed.

Am a Catholic, you are correct. While the Catholic faith is the superior Christian faith, good Protestants who have love of Christ, not those anticatholics, can be saved.

The word catholic means universal, which is what we all were before the reformation. One Shepard, one flock. Just knowing Jesus and believing in Him is not enough to get us to heaven. We must remain diligent in seeking truth irregardless of whether or not it is something completely different than what we were taught or how we grew up. God said every eye shall be opened to truth. Free will allows us to seek it. If we turn a blind eye to it, we deny Him. Just a few things to think about....

@Saved By Jesus but I do have a question regarding your response: why does all doctrine say that Catholicism began over 2,000 yrs ago, and was the first religion. Because the word “Catholic” does mean universal and Jesus wanted us to all be one church, we can’t dismiss the fact that the reformation messed all that up right?? And He said, “unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, thy shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

@Saved By Jesus and paganism was for those who were non-Christians. You don’t incorporate both non-Christians and Christians and label them Catholic. That is wrong to the core... By the way, is “saved by Jesus” Catholic? Be cause the more I think about your response, the more I question....

Non-Catholic? Sure.. Non-Christian whatsoever..? Ehhhhhh... I'm extremely skeptical of anyone of another religion making it, especially if they hear the gospel and reject it. And I feel there's a lot more passages in scripture to point to this; several times directly from Jesus' mouth in the gospel of John alone. Also...the thief was saved without being baptized or anything..but that was before the sacraments were even implemented and before the church was well established.

Not sure of your point Lou, but you make a good point about “non-Christians” I don’t think Father Goring was referring to them, that is a whole different ball of wax. Nevertheless we cannot presume anything. It will be our hin den's,if we do not spread the Gospel, teach the Faith, and make the sacraments available. We have no way of knowing the mind of God and these circumstances, because they were not shared. However, what was shared was that we are to bring each other I to the Church. It's okay not to take away hope, but this type of thinking can be dangerous, for us and for others.

1.God is Merciful, but it is forgotten that He is also a just. 2.Inculpable ignorance of the gospel is a condition of, not a cause of salvation. We cannot allow the exception to the rule to become the rule. 3. “Reasonable hope” that all will be saved it is only a conjecture ( it is dangerous for sinful souls, when it turns out to be a false hope created according to human, not God's thought).

There is a lot up in the air in this talk, I watch Fr.Mark talks everyday, I usually like them but this one sounds a lot like Bishop Barron "ish" . I am very surprised by some of his points, for example if everyone has a last opportunity to accept Jesus on his last breath why would Jesus have died on the cross and why would we have to follow any Religion at all during our lifetime etc..Hell would be pretty empty if this was the case.
