brilliant video made so much sense when I bought a second hand wormery from Ebay that did not come with any instructions
@thekayyysayyy3 жыл бұрын
I realize this video is old but it's important to mention that where you setup the worm bedding and worms themselves is actually the collection tray to collect the liquid gold, or liquid worm castings. The worm bedding and worms should be on the first tray above this, likewise that cardboard circle should also go in the tray.
@sickChevycolorado3 жыл бұрын
I agree thought thats the whole point .. to collect the worm castings ...

That is the 1st time i have seen a set up of a worm bin / farm done with the food on the 2nd tray.
@alpinewhite6 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I don't understand why they didn't put even a little bit of food on the first tray. Are the worms supposed to consume the bedding first prior to moving to the scraps? This is different than other videos I've seen where they keep feeding the first tray first. Then, once that's almost full of castings, they start filling the 2nd tray.

Good and simple vid. It's not rocket science. I got a big bale of peat-moss and that seems to work well, Moisten it up and chuck in a bunch of veges and stuff, I think I spoil my worms because I chop the compost into bits and sometimes blend it. They go nuts when I do it; I feel like Caesar and they are my minions. I did a test on regular potting soil, with Miracle Grow, and my mix with worm castings/vermiculite/perilite and it's what you would imagine. Mine was superior! Miracle grow came in a close 2nd to the loser but couldn't touch the worm-grow. Viva la verms!!!

This is the first instruction that's made sense. I've been wondering why I've always had just the one tray - i.e. how do I coax the worms up to the next level. By putting the food in the tray above the worms, they'll have to crawl up into it to eat. I've had my Can O Worms for over 2 years and they're still only in the first tray, so I'm going to do it Mark's way and see how it goes.

I kinda just use one layer and bury the food in with them there. I think they rather move up than down, without a wet carboard on the top they used to never eat on the surface, so I don't have enough trust to put the food on the top as is to rot uncovered.

Hi Mark, great video, what about meat scraps? I'm buying two of the rectangular Worm Cafe's, one for kitchen scraps and another purely for dog poo (to keep seperate), can any meat be put into either of them?

Just wondering if you still got the worm bin. It's great idea to reuse the packaging but by putting the whole cardboard it will stop the airflow, will get too soggy. Took forever for the worms to break it down. This is speaking from my experience. Would be nice to see your current bin condition.

What's the tap for? And there's no mention of what the contraption is for! Are we merely fattening-up worms or is the intention to breed them?
@juliaholmes66526 жыл бұрын
The tap lets out the worm 'tea' - urine.. You use this as fertiliser on your veg patch. Dilute it about 1:3 with water. The intention is to make your own compost, and use the worm castings ( pooh) as a fertiliser for your plants. The worms just breed and keep the whole thing going for many years if you look after it and do not overfeed with fruit and veg, and add enough 'brown' stuff like paper and cardboard.
@flyfish4 жыл бұрын
the tap is used to tap of or drain of the worm 'tea' used as compost.

I’ve worked out some things about my advance and you’re doing it all wrong you don’t put food in the next layer can you put the food on the first layer with the worms and then once they’re done fertilising that liar you put coconut husk into the next layer and then put food in it and then they come up and start on that

@@kostaleotta8854 Sphagnum is a genus of approximately 380 accepted species[2] of mosses, commonly known as "peat moss". Accumulations of Sphagnum can store water, since both living and dead plants can hold large quantities of water inside their cells; plants may hold 16 to 26 times as much water as their dry weight, depending on the species.[3] The empty cells help retain water in drier conditions.
