When my (Northern born and raised) husband and I went to visit relatives in Kentucky and Arkansas, I became his official interpreter. The first time that we visited them, he still had most of his Northeast (Connecticut) accent....... and.... he would get this response after he would talk to strangers (in their areas): “Yah ain’t from round these parts..” or “From the North, ain’t ya”.
