You're overlooking another possibility: His sun-absorbing cells might cancel the vampire's sun weakness, absorbing and metabolizing daylight before it could cause damage, while still functioning normally. Or maybe the vampirism wouldn't overwrite his natural kryptonian invulnerability. If that superpower can protect him from a point blank nuke, it could do the same against the damaging effects of sun on a vampire. In those two cases, we would get a vampire Superman as powerful, or maybe more.

I'm not big on Supes, so forgive my ignorance on this subject, but how far have his writers gone into the nitty gritty of "powered by the yellow sun" mechanic? I get we can ignore any yellow sunlight shinning on Earth from the stars at night as Krypton would have also had that but it wasn't enough to affect the population, but what about moonlight? After all, the moon does not produce it's own light; it's reflected sunlight. Other than intensity, one problem with moonlight, though, is that it's also technically more in the red spectrum than direct sunlight, but then, that's a real world scientific observation; I have no idea if writers have ever addressed moonlight in universe. Do Superman's powers diminish at night at all? Using the battery metaphor, do we know how long a "charge" on Superman lasts if he's out of yellow sunlight? Depending on the plan, it could still be useful to have control of a peak-ish Superman even if it's just for a few hours/days. Plus, even if he's limited as a direct asset, there's still the benefit in his being removed as a threat.

Depends on how you write it. Maybe his Kryptonian ability to absorb solar energy would overrule a Vamp's weakness to it long enough to let him recharge ... at least for a little while. Plus, you might BS some other way of powering up Superman. I remember in Our Worlds at War that Superman was powered up by Strange Visitor. And when Superman returned from the dead and was weak he was repowered when a Kryptonite blast passed through the Eradicator, who altered it (and it later mutated Superman and the Parasite). And there's always the fun magic loophole for anything you might want to happen, but logically shouldn't.

The only explanation I can think of is that vampire are, usually, supernatural in nature and Superman doesn't have any particular invulnerability to the supernatural. It's why he can be affected by magic just like everyone else.

Nah, I don't think this is an effective way to get "sun energy". Plants convert that energy, as you said, into something they can use.... glucose and such... and then discard the "waste" as water/oxygen/etc. The sun is a catalyst for processes already in place inside the plant. Presumably, it does the same for Superman. So, eating or biting the plant would not achieve the same ends. I say... if he did become a vampire that would burn in the light..... then he would just become a burning charred frame while he soaked up power, then retreated into the darkness to recover. Much of his absorbed power would probably go to regenerating his body. Basically, he'd be Superman, but nowhere near as pretty, in my opinion.

@@ranwolf7650 On top of that, Supes' blood is saturated with sun energy, which may or may not kill a vampire just like it did Superman that one time. Imagine drinking sunlight as a vampire. It could probably even destroy the disease since logically sunlight affects vampires ergo sun energy would affect the disease in exactly the same way. That's how I've always seen it, anyway.

I agree that a vampire should not be able to bite Superman. A story they could do is a vampire puts Clark under his thrall, but when he goes to bite Clark the fact that his teeth can’t penetrate Clark’s skin reveals that Clark is Superman and perhaps the vampire would use Clark as one of his minions under his thrall despite not being able to turn him.

I remember another Marvel example in the series Runaways: At some point a vampire tried to bite Karolina, who was an alien with sun-powered light powers that makes her body shine like a star. The vampire burned like Dracula in this video.

@@Espadasilenciosa I think it makes more sense with Karolina than Supes or Hulk, since she not only absorbs solar energy, she expels it as well. Like, her whole power set is light based (well, with some flight thrown in for good measure), so she embodies sunlight far more than the other two.

You're incorrect on how Superman's "vulnerability" to magic works, but it'd take a LONG reply to explain it to you. Suffice it to say, magic ISN'T kryptonite to Superman. He doesn't lose his powers just because some kid starts doing card tricks nearby. DC made a big mistake introducing the whole magic thing in the first place, because it's not a simple, neat and clean answer, and therefore invites writers to just say, "Ah screw it. We'll just do whatever we want with it."

@@stormhawk31 I know exactly how it works. And to “um actually” you back: Kryptonite doesn’t make Superman lose his powers, it just kills him (despite what lazy writers do with it). Magic does not make Superman lose his powers. Instead it isn’t affected by his powers. In that way a magic weapon, like Excalibur or say Vampier fangs, can ignore Superman’s invulnerability while bullets will continue to bounce off of him. Superman can still fly or bodyslam slam Dracula into dirt.

@@Corey.Coolidge I don't know what you mean by "um actually". In any case, you're correct. Kryptonite doesn't rob Superman of his powers - at least, it's not supposed to. It "weakens" him in the same sense that you'd be "weakened" if you had the flu and were feverish and nauseated. But his strength, invulnerability, etc. remain unchanged. The kryptonite poisons him and will ultimately kill him, but it doesn't rob him of his powers, despite what many writers show. It's nice to find someone else who understands that. As for magic, that's not how it works. It depends on how the magic is being used. Basically, it works like this (short version): ✅ Magic used as a physical assault (energy blast, etc.) still slams against Superman's invulnerable body. If the magic isn't sufficiently powerful, like anything else, it'll just bounce off. It doesn't get any extra oomph just because it's magic. Superman is invulnerable, and if you're not powerful enough to get past that invulnerability, it doesn't matter if you're magical. ✅ Magic used as a spell changes the rules. In other words, it can alter reality to varying degrees. Magic used THIS way is what DC means when they say that magic can work against Superman. In this way, he's no different than Thor, who Loki once turned into a frog. With this kind of magic, a less powerful magic user could potentially affect Superman (charm spells, etc.), but again, it depends on which of his attributes the mage is trying to affect. Superman's mind can be difficult to affect if he's aware you're trying to do it, but not as much if you catch him by surprise. He could be polymorphed (turned into a frog, for example), but it would take a VERY powerful sorcerer to do it (Loki, for example). And, even then, like Thor, he'd still retain his essential nature (powers, intelligence, etc.). It would take someone whose power is outside the normal bounds of reality to change Superman's essential nature. Someone like Mxyzptlk, who could turn Superman into a popcorn kernel if he wanted. ✅ Finally, there's magic weapons. Blunt weapons, like big stupid hammers, or magically enchanted fists, simply slam against Superman's invulnerable body. The material strength of the object prevents it from being destroyed when it impacts Superman's body, and the magic (in the case of Mjolnir, for example) may bestow other abilities on the wielder, or reinforce the material strength of the object, but the magic doesn't increase the amount of damage it does to Superman. Blades are different. A blade still has to be made of strong enough stuff to survive being used against Superman (you're not cutting him with a magic butter knife), and the wielder still has to have enough physical strength to hurt him (some 10 year old isn't hurting him even with Wonder Woman's sword), but the nature of what a blade does makes it easier to hurt Superman with one than with a blunt object. Think of a magic blade as being surrounded with a force field that effectively prevents its edge from dulling when it strikes Superman, and reduces the protection of his own protective aura. If the sword is made of tough enough material, and the person wielding it is strong enough, Superman CAN be cut by a magic blade. It's similar to how Doomsday's bone spurs cut Superman because their material strength was so great (Doomsday is invulnerable), and Doomsday's strength is sufficient to injure Superman. Magic can HELP a blade accomplish the same thing, but it's not going to immediately eviscerate and kill Superman simply because it's magic. How does this affect Dracula? The simple fact that he's a magical creature doesn't make his fangs magic blades. They're still just teeth. Even if it DID make his fangs magic weapons, Dracula doesn't have the strength to hurt Superman with them, nor do they have the material strength to hurt Superman, because they're just teeth. Sure, maybe they're a bit tougher than normal human teeth, but they're still just teeth. Dracula would be wasting his time trying to bite Superman; he'd have better luck trying to mesmerize him, and even then, that's not as easy as some writers make it out to be. Superman isn't Juggernaut, who has a weak mind if you get his helmet off. No less a telepath than Martian Manhunter has said that Superman has THE most powerful mind he's ever encountered. Even if Dracula successfully mesmerized Superman, it's doubtful that he could hold him for long, and he'd probably lose control of him the instant he ordered Superman to do something that violates his core values. TLDR: A vampire shouldn't be able to bite Superman. Ever.

Superman does have a weakness to magic, and vampires are magic/have magic, so presumably they could break Superman's skin.

How resistant to magic usually depends on run or iteration, but its not like he doesn't frequently endure magical attacks beyond a vampire bite. Like Silver Banshee screams which is suppose to magically kill opponents via visual cues.

There are so many things that are up to the writers that he might. I was simplifying the issue, but yeah. It's like wanting to know how long it takes for kryptonite to kill Superman. Or how fast it weakens him. We don't have hard data on that either. If we had that info a lot writers would be left with less choices to tell a story or we would have a lot more retcons. I mean, Superman has been exposed to kryptonite so much that he might show signs of radiation sickness sooner or later, that is not a fun thought to have.

Personally, that’s a bit much for me. Hal Jordan is such an insufferable villain sue (how can he even use his ring now?) and they handled Wonder Woman so darn dirty. It just raises too many questions.
