RESELLERS Unite in ANTIQUE SHOPPING Town! | Shop with Me | VINTAGE Mall
We're in the middle of a sweet little town that's become a big antique destination, and we've found a new (to us) antique collective to explore! Will we add to our collections and find bargains we can flip for a profit? Let's go look!
Purple Pig Antiques & Artisans of Cadiz, Kentucky is mostly antiques and vintage, so it's a great place for us to hunt for cool old stuff. From the 19th century Windsor chairs in the front window to the sparking 1960s Soreno glass on a back shelf, this place runs the gamut, with a good sprinkling of true antiques ranging from feather art to Gerdago bookends among its deeply-piled spaces of vintage goods, bric-a-brac and old home decor items.
Along the way, we point out hints and tips to help us all when we're out looking for vintage and antiques...how to date an item using patent numbers, why Victorian flint glass rings like a bell, how we can tell those chairs are old primitives...our goal is to understand and appreciate all the different things that collectors look for in a store like this!
Meanwhile, our other goal (to buy things we can flip for a profit to other collectors) is easily filled with wonderful wall pockets, Peanuts luggage and drip cut server that even Rodeo the Dachshund thinks smells quite fine! Another fun day with nice people in the antique and vintage community...I love taking you on these shop-alongs!
Here's more of what we see in this fun antique mall:
1940s Aquacade program, 1910s student slate, Shawnee and Lefton wall pockets, brick cutter, 1920s NY license plates, Kanawha cased milk/orange glass, 1960s boat steering wheel and floating compass, California turkey platter, Wagner gem cake pan, cast iron Nashville teapot, Penguin hot/cold server, square red Pyrex casserole/lid, Watt Ware, Treasure Craft Sedona bowls, 1970s dog earring stand, 1950s red kitchen cart, Pres-Cut glass vases, apple chalkware string holder, restaurant teapot tea server, Westmoreland dolphin candle holders, decapitated clown cookie jar, head vase wall pocket, 1840s handleless copper luster cup, 1950s stacking bee measuring cups, 1890s mustache cup, Blue Onion 'crumber' (silent butler) set, wicker porch swing, framed Victorian feather bouquet, Sharon and green depression glass, 1910s lobster handled divided dish, hens on nests, Pigeon Forge pottery, 1860s prismatic girandole, Fenton and Northwood beverage sets, Buckeye 5 gallon crockery jug, etc.

Thanks for the tour and education. I love how welcoming and friendly the owners daughter was! Rodeo is a cutie-pie! It's great for the owner of the shop. Free advertising! My ex hubby and I 12+ years ago used to call the penguin West Bend piece 'the item of the day' because we inevitably saw one every time we went out shopping.

Part of the reason a lot of depression glass is gone - TONS of it was made - is that to people of the time, it represented being poor. My mother used to talk about how ashamed she was when people came to her house to eat and all they had was pink depression they got from the movies and in detergent and flour packages. She couldn't wait to be able to afford real dishes and then throw away all the depression glass, which I imagine they did with extreme prejudice. She always hated it!
@TheAntiqueNomad

Interesting! At the time, it was the current thing and was quite the rage, IF you could afford the serving pieces. The folks who just got the premiums felt more like your mom

@persiphonehellecat

I totally get it. Actually it was my grandmother who taught me about it when I bught my first box full. Most people didn't have the fancy stuff - just the stuff they got at movie theatres and in soap and flour packages. It represents bad times - hard times - to many people. @@Moekristie

Good evening, George! That Gerado piece was fantastic. It would be able to stand alone as a statue. I would buy and use the Wagner Gem pan. I'm loving the 1850s iron kettle I got from you! There have been a lot of compliments on it, too. I like wall pockets, but I'm extremely picky with them. The Weller one did suit me. Wasn't that cup next to the early English, no-handle cup a shaving mug? Mustache cups have an opening for the liquid to pass through. Shaving mugs have the "cradle" for the shaving brush, with the holes for the soap to drip through. That girandole would've come home with me! That seemed a really good price for that piece. I have a "Cherry Blossom" beverage set in the pink. That's a nice pattern. Purple Pig is a super-nice shop!!! Fantastic that you found it open!!! Thanks for the take-along!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
I am so glad the kettle is getting noticed! I really loved the Gerado piece, we have one in my family. I think you're right about the shaving mug as opposed to a mustache cup, I'll have to do a comparison sometime to show the difference to everyone. The girandole was cheap I thought! Thank you for coming along!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

@@TheAntiqueNomad The kettle is on the table in the kitchen, and it does get noticed and complimented a lot. I have a left-handed mustache cup and saucer, and I have an R S Prussia shaving mug, with the perforated cradle. I've seen people get the two confused, so a comparison of the two, showing the differences, would be helpful to people. Oh, that girandole was at a "you can't leave me" price. Even with no more space to put anything, it would've come home with me.
