Who would have thought that there are leopards in Delhi, India? On the southern fringes of Delhi is the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary and here recent research has proven that leopards are in this urban jungle. In this video, I join Sohail Madan from the Bombay Natural History Society to see how they are collecting data on the big cats in the reserve! 🐆
To learn more about the research conducted by Bombay Natural History Society you can visit their website: www.bnhs.org/

@@talesofodyssey So amazing to think wild animals can live side by side so close to humans. I guess there is no easy answers on how to keep things as natural as possible. But as humans we defo need to do our bit to help keep nature safe and sound and all live in harmony. We all need each other for the long term as you say. I wish you a pleasant weekend and hope you stay safe and well whatever you are currently doing in India. Good weekend to all the gang 🙏🏾🤗😊

Forest land is increasing not decreasing in India. Surprising but true.
@talesofodyssey
@talesofodyssey Жыл бұрын
Actually this is a bit more complicated than you suggest here.. open forests are increasing but this is mainly due to plantations. Dense forest is still in the decline. And many critical areas with lots of wildlife are under increasing pressure due to encroachment and habitat loss. You can see in many areas how for example larger cats are under pressure because of this. Also asked some of my contacts who are more knowledgable about this topic and they say that most of the green patches visible on the satelites are prosopis juliflore whihc is an invasive and exotic species which isn't used by cattle or wildlife. So yeah more plants, but they are not supporting the wildlife at all.

Hello Ráchelle. Love this video! I have so many questions but I won't bug you with them.. haha! it made me sad to think of how many animals perished during the illegal mining period. I did some research and found out that the sanctuary is almost the same size as the capital city here in Sri Lanka. With humans and wildlife living so closely together, I wonder how much interaction they have, especially with those walking/cycling paths within the sanctuary boundary.

I live near a Tiger Reserve (Similipal), and here we get to see tigers about once in a couple of months. Sometimes, the Tigers are just laying down on the dirt roads and sometimes we see them from the road sitting under trees or moving on the hillsides. Tigers, leopards and other wildlife have been living here with humans since centuries and they kind of know that the road is used by humans. So, they usually move out of the way when they see humans coming down the road. Similarly, inside the forest, the people know that the forest floor belongs to the animals and so, if they come across an animal, they give it a wide berth (atleast 100-150 metres space). This has been the norm since my childhood. Only once I was chased by a peacock, god knows why. Apart from that, no danger.
