In 1983, when I started dating my husband, this song was HOT! For months, when we would enter a store, this song would be playing. When my hubby would drive across the state to visit me, every time he had to find a new radio station, this song would be playing! It quickly became "our" song. My hubby plays this at least once a week for me. The past 6 weeks, I've been home recuperating from surgery and he plays this almost every afternoon. I truly loved watching you react to this very special song!

My fave Bonnie Tyler is Holdin Out for a Hero. Feels like you've been captured by a villain and you're racing through the streets of some city in the middle of the night while your handsome, strong lover is on your tail, coming to rescue you from the bad guy. You can feel all of that just by listening to that song. It's a whole vibe.

This song was huge when it was released, the husky tone to her voice happened as a result of vocal surgery that didn't go to plan. She also duetted with meatloaf. Jim Steinman is the guy who wrote this song as well as a lot of meatloaf's hits, and he died only yesterday so finding this now makes me want to revisit all his back catalogue and you should too as there are some great songs in it.

This is a “Vampire love song”. That’s why the lyrics create images that seem abstract; but they’re just simple and descriptive. She’s singing about her “love in the dark”, since her vampire lover, “Bright Eyes” (his eyes glow!), can never be in the daylight, so she lives by night, too. However, she, the singer, is still human, even though she’s been with the vampire (who doesn’t get old) for such a long time, that she’s starting to grow old. So the story of the song, is that tonight she’s decided to surrender to the vampire (drink his blood or whatever) to become a vampire, too; and never age further, nor ever die. “Forever starts tonight !” Creepy. I always thought it was a song that was metaphor for something that’s hard to understand. But once I realized that the storyline was a vampire story, then it’s clear that the lyrics are simple prose (but creepy). When the song was first recorded, my teenage daughter and her friends, used to sing this ALL THE TIME ! I was concerned that it might be a “suicide story”; and not good for them to be so obsessed with ! So, I put some effort into understanding the lyrics. I was very relieved to figure out that it was just another monster fantasy. Romantic vampire stories were very popular, back then.

Bonnie is from Wales and surgery on her vocal nodules gave her the voice that was described as "The Female Rod Stewart." I'm sure you roller skated to this song as this was her biggest hit here in the US, spending five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart way back in 1983. This song was covered by Nikki French (more of a dance track) in 1994 & she took her version to #2.

This composition (lyrics and music) is the product of Jim Steinman, a genius of the rock opera genre. He will leave us in a few days (April 19, 2021) after the recording of your present "Reactions". If you want to enjoy some more of his brilliant creations, I suggest you listen to: >>> Meat Loaf (he will die on January 22, 2022): "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" (from the album "Bat Out Of Hell", 1977) and "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" (from the album "Bat Out OF Hell II: Back Into Hell", 1993); >>> Celine Dion: "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" (although Steinman wrote this song for her girl band Pandora's Box, it is Celine Dion's later cover that is now widely referred to.) Thanks.

It is the fact that thus song motivates the men and gives them their truth, that amazes. You don't believe, watch the men in as many reaction videos and you will, see.
