The Ned Rig is a fantastic fishing lure for catching numbers of bass. As you likely know, I have a ton of experience with this rig and have made a lot of content about it in the past... But I still often get the comment, "I can't catch fish on a Ned Rig." so I wanted to make this video to help anglers who may be struggling with it.

How To Fish The Ned Rig: • How To Fish the Ned Rig
One of the highlights of my fishing life is the trip I took with Ned Kehde (who the rig is named after). I learned so much that day, but more important than that, I got to know a great fisherman. He is extremely humble and truly enjoys helping people catch fish. I find that admirable and I try my best to be like him in that way. Stay tuned for more Ned Rig (and finesse fishing) content in the future!

Ethan really knows his ned rig stuff 👍. I first tried the rig maybe 1.5-2yrs ago. I failed miserably with it haha. Multiple trips trying it and didn't get even as much as a nibble. After watching all of Ethans ned rig videos and chatting with him a bit I gave it another try. Still took me a trip or two to get in the groove but I got there. I truly think I was overworking the rig wayyy too much. Got to where I would hop it minimally even forcing myself to let it sit and count the seconds down. Went from no bites to suddenly getting a dozen fish a trip in a highly pressured park pond. Totally changed my fishing. Alot of success with it in moving water with different plastics too. Now if I can keep from snagging and losing the rig on every rock or submerged tree 🤣🤣🤣.

Glad you have picked up on that. Takes a while to "master" the rig and that is one of the little secrets a lot of people have a hard time realizing. So many anglers fish a "Ned Rig" on a 1/4oz + jig. Defeats the beauty of this bad boy!

Hey Ethan, I was using "The Deal TRD" the other day and noticed something. It looks like you run the point of the hook out of the "dark" side of the bait. I did too until recently. In fact, I also run the hook out of the purple darker side of the PB&J TRD. Then, I looked at the action in the water and noticed something. It seems, if I ran the hook point out along the line where the dark and the light color meet, the bait actually sits at an angle more consistent with the way a bait fish would look when it's feeding. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel but, give it a try. See if it makes a difference to the fish. May be over analyzing it. LOL

Hi Nathan, Thanks for the video. I have avoided the Ned Rig because many of the waters I fish are weedy-- loaded with milfoil in water up to 10 feet deep and a bit more. What is your suggestion for lakes that a full of Milfoil? Fish it in deeper open water? Soft bottom water ok too? Thanks
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest fishing it around the edges and actually lightening up your jighead so it doesn't bog down in the grass. A lot of anglers make the mistake of fishing too heavy of gear around vegetation when it actually works just fine to do the opposite! Otherwise, I would probably use other rigs because when the grass comes to the surface, a Ned is probably not your best friend. A weightless senko, topwater frog, swim jig, etc. may be good options!

I fish a lot of laydowns with a Ned Rig; I use a 1/32 oz head with a #6 hook. With that tiny hook it gets hung up a lot less. Granted I don’t throw into the thick stuff; but I can fish them effectively. I also target individual stumps with the small jighead as well. I’ll also throw either a Zman Finesse ShadZ or TRD Minnowz; neither has any salt which gives the whole rig a very slow fall.

It can vary based on equipment used. A lot of the jigheads out there don’t stand up very well. Plastic choice obviously impacts it a lot as well. And lastly the line can also throw off the action. THIS THING REALLY WORKS! The next day I hooked a 3 lb bass and a 5 lb bass using the same set up with the twice bent hook?? Bending the hook without breaking the line showed me the strength of my 6lb test and Albright knot that build my confidence. If I could give one piece of advice, keep a dip net close by because you’re going to need it.

Are you aware your spinning reel’s handle can be switched to the left side so you don’t have to play that silly pattycake-like game swapping hands back and forth every cast?

I am aware, however I have tried switching and reeling with my off-hand. I find it significantly less comfortable and I don't feel like I am properly working my bait. I just decide to live with it :)

isn't it just a small shakey head ?

Kind of. The value is the smaller hook/head and the slow rate of fall.

People are clicking out because video is too dragging, too much side tracking. Better to go straight to the point, you’ll get more air time by viewers watching the whole video

I'd rather just be myself and have fun than worry about view count. I appreciate the feedback though!
