I think they are too old to change. Hope for the younger generation to do a better job! Bolt cutters on those overgrown and sometimes painful hooves is not comfortable for anyone!

There is no need. Farriers in other countries have electric tools. I saw one use an electric saw to cut off excess. It was not faster than the hand trimmer this farrier used in the beginning. He then used nippers and a rasp. Those two are traditional tools. That doesn't mean they are better. This farrier keeps his tools very sharp so the trimmings go faster. He is extremely skilled.

I have never seen this anywhere in the world except in China. Why do they torture their donkeys and attempt to take care of them only when the donkey is no longer able to perform for them??? There should be punishment for owners.

You have not been anywhere obviously but I guarantee if you visit Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma you will see what I have seen as a Farrier. Animal neglect is very common just as child neglect is

This country doesn't have laws to protect regular animals! Only endangered species like the pandas and a few more are protected. Cruel owners let the donkeys' hooves overgrow for years because they become heavy and they get more money when they sell the donkey with overgrown hooves! Many of the donkeys are rescued and bought from the cruel owners and their hooves get trimmed or repaired. They are sold to hopefully kinder owners who will take good care of them. It's heartbreaking to see the awful shape these overgrown hooves are in just for a few dollars more and the suffering these donkeys have to endure for years!

The donkey was cooperative, didn't make a big fuss, I guess he knew his feet would feel much better. Too bad he's got a problem with his hoof separating, I hope that Vaseline works but it must take weeks if not months to heal back to normal.

I see that their culture is different but showing kindness to animals isn't hard. How would they feel if their feet were covered in corns or their toenails were overgrown and painful? If you take care of your animals, they work better for you and it is more cost efficient in the long run. Just makes sense.

They do start to walk normally. But not instantly or perfectly. You see them starting to put weight on the foot, etc. But after their feet are that messed up, it takes time for them to completely recover. Tendons need to stretch, etc. If they were being better cared for, you would see quicker results. Because it wouldn't be such a dramatic change from one trimming to the next.

I think it's more than just Vaseline. It's some kind of medication, but I could be wrong.

Yeh that's not Vaseline... I suspect it has ingredients that promote hoof growth and also a protection barrier. It takes approximately a year foe the hoof to grow from the hair line to the ground/toe. So doubt a follow up anytime soon

They might not have one. Or there may not be electricity nearby. They could be out in the middle of nowhere. But that bladed tool seems to get the job done fast enough. But those clipper type tools don't cut through nearly as quickly. A grinder also might not be needed for donkey hoofs. A grinder on cow hoofs is needed to grind down the tougher horn like the wall horn. It would be slow going using a knife. But if this horn isn't as hard, it might not be needed.

@@jamesb.9155 Agreed. But I don't see people using grinders on horses either. And that's where I could see them being a lot more useful. The horn on those hoofs seems a lot tougher to deal with than on these donkeys.
