I believe that technology can enhance the learning experience in an integrative way. I believe that understanding the principles behind technology and how we apply those in the classroom setting can help students learn.

I like the comment on using technology to make learning student centric. I have been preaching participant centered learning for some time to my colleagues. Using technology to do this has great potential if done correctly.

This talk was back in 2012 so the ideas seem very out-of-date now especially it's in terms of technology. I don't remember much about what the technology had done in 2012 to assist education but what he presented in this talk was something back then. Technology shorted the distance between the dots, presenting content and educational resources to students and making it easier to learn. Moreover, because of its originality it did get more engagement from the students. Nowadays new technologies are booming but not so much is the pedagogy in the technological settings. I think the real challenge at present is how to achieve an effective learning with technology and how to assess the learning.

Interrogator- I agree with Nicole. I think that technology can be a huge distraction to students in the classroom, if not taught to use it the right way. Teachers need to either disable the game/ internet features or teach students that when it is time to do school work using technology it is not a time for games. As a sub I have experience with teachers leaving students time to work on computers for projects and when I walk around they aren't working on their projects they are playing games and taking taking advantage of both me and the technology.

Hi fellow teachers. I am looking to have three teachers answer these questions. Any takers? Teacher Interview Questions: How much of a priority is it for you to teach your students how to use the technology that you integrate into your class lessons? What are your main sources for discovering the latest in educational technologies? What have you found to be the best ways to assess the effectiveness of an integrated educational technology? On a scale of 1-10, how effective do you believe your school is in the area of teaching digital literacy? What steps would you suggest for your school that may increase your school a few points on the scale? How do the teachers and administrators who take the lead in the use of technology in the classrooms share their experiences, ideas, and knowledge with other teachers? What has been the most effective piece of technology that you currently use to create authentic learning experiences for your students? How have recent education technologies been integrated into your assessments? How has edu. technologies made a difference in the differentiation of your instruction, content, and assessments for various learners? How have you noticed students using available technology to support their learning process?

Antagonist - Blending technology and classrooms isn't always a great idea. Sometimes these children do no know how to use the technology or they take advantage of the technology and do what they want to do on the devices. For example, there was a boy last year in preschool that used an iPad to communicate. However, when he got mad or upset he threw it and the speech therapist had to reprogram his apps all over again. If child are not ready to use the technology or are not taught how to use it correctly then it shouldn't be in the classroom.

I recognize that he didn't offer specific solutions because then people would be cynical and say, "Yeah, but that solution doesn't fit my needs" and dismiss it. I understand that. But he offered zero concrete/specific examples that educators can roll out in their classrooms. We got an example from Turkey, which uses mobile learning stations on large trucks (not feasible for most schools), and we got a very vague example from a school district in California. Actually, I don't even know what the California example is. He says they introduced technology...OK. But what is it? This video has no details!

Everything is just really vague. He is speaking on very good content, however, it is to "connected" to GDP and spending. I understand the whole, "work with what you have" message, but that message gets lost in what it a lot of random information. I am not hearing the answer to his question, "Can technology change education?". Again, more of a "technology vs. cost" not answering his title posed question.

Poor in that it lacked any real depth. Example/Tech candy: "These 2 educators in Richmond Virginia made a difference in the lives of their students.....a variety of changes led to a better learning environment." Okkk. Um, how exactly? OR, Here watch this video of a mobile tech classroom in Turkey that is making a difference. Loosely correlated ideas with no real solutions presented. If I didn't HAVE to watch this type of drivel for a program I'm participating in, I certainly wouldn't.

Technology is a tool. However, this tool distribution throughout the school is determined by Administrators, Principals, & Department Chairs.......meaning that AP, Pre-AP, Advanced classes get everything they want while Reg Ed, Special Ed, and ESOL students get nothing because they are viewed as not on the college track. I got nothing from the school. I don't even get textbooks or supplies. I purchased whatever technology I do have that according to the speaker is still making me the "sage on the stage". I can't afford to buy classroom sets of iPADs or other types of technologies. I can't even get certain types of technology for the Special Ed students. No one cares.

A decade later we can see what an utter failure this reimagination of education has been. His analogy of reading by brail to the possibilities of technology education is a poor one. Let’s get back to hard copy textbooks, pencils, pen and paper so parents can actually be involved in our children’s education rather than mind numbed. What a horrible waste this new vision of education is. UTTER FAILURE!
