Agreed. Majority of the F150s, Silverados, and Rams are doing nothing but towing air and driving one person around. It has fully become a status symbol. I'm glad to see smaller pick up trucks come back.

I really like these ranch videos you have been putting out recently. Other channels just drive these things on the highway and call it a day. I appreciate you risking damage to these expensive vehicles to show what they are actually capable of. It's just a breath of fresh air.

2023 Santa Cruz Limited 2.5 Turbo owner here. Just want to say I’ll take my Santa Cruz over my old Silverado any day. It does exactly what I need it to do. It’ll tow the 4 wheeler & 0 turn, make it up to my cabins in Wv & handle anything I need from Lowes. An excellent little “truck”.

I completely agree with David that compact trucks have been put to good use all around the world. There’s no reason why we can’t do the same with them here

If it can manage that 900 lb load up a 30 degree dirt road, that little "SAV" is perfect for most backyard jobs, for sure.

I found it very interesting what David said about other countries. First, bless him for doing missionary work. Second, going to another country help him realize that you dont always have to have big things to get tasks done. I always find it beneficial when people travel the world and see different things and cultures. Great video! I am not interested on the Santa Cruz because i tow a fifth wheel but i enjoyed watching.

FYI, the Santa Cruz has a self-leveling suspension, which allows them to use softer springs for a more compliant ride. The suspension will sag more at first, but as you drive down the road it levels itself back up.

I've got one and for "not being a pick-up" it does reasonably well at being a pick-up which is all I could ask. I don't plan on hauling roundbales or a half-ton of firewood with it though, I just want to lock my tools up in the bed and head out to a job site or some camping gear and head out for a long weekend and be comfortable while getting to and fro.

I really wish you'd have re-measured the squat in the rear after driving it a little bit. The self-leveling shocks in the rear work after you get rolling over a few bumps. Visually, I could see a difference in the video from when you loaded and left to the end, after you did some driving around with the weight on. I suspect you regained an inch or two. Small oversight, but nice to see how well it handled a round bale - I dare say better than when I dropped one in my old 97 Sierra (2WD) a few years back for my brother's horses. I didn't think it was going to fit with the tonneau!

David hit the nail on the head when it comes to lack of large trucks in other parts of the world. They don’t have all what we have and to be honest we have gone way overboard in what we actually need and use. Other countries keep using smaller trucks and make things work, and ironically they actually use them as for their intended purpose. Here we use them as people haulers, the bigger the better the mentality…. Just driving around town, with these massive HD jacked up rides aka mall crawlers hauling nothing but air in the bed..lol I pray that we get back to living more simp,e in the terms of getting and using what we need verse all show and no go.

Big pickups can haul a lot of weight. Youre right. It comes at the expense of comfort, fuel mileage and cost. I just traded my 2500HD for a Tacoma. Just didnt tow heavy enough often enough and it was expensive to maintain(and initial purchase cost was WOW), chewed through fuel and rode like a buckboard unloaded(only slightly better loaded heavy). My tacoma will tow 6800 lbs and get 20 plus mpg unloaded. Insurance cost went down. There are other bonuses as well but you get the point. Happy with it so far.

I bought a black SEL Santa Cruz without the tannou cover and it’s honestly great. It rides really well and for light work it’s a totally functional and practical little truck.

I'm really loving my Santa Cruz and it's good to know if I ever need to haul some real weight around it will be up to the job.

In terms of a pickup: Maverick > Santa Cruz. The bed on the Maverick is much more useful doing pickup truck work without the gimmicks.

2000+ miles into my new limited Santa Cruz and I have to say, THIS THING IS AWESOME! I spent about 20 hours in research before purchasing mine in Somersworth, NH and its still more car/truck/SUV than I had expected. It’s a very luxurious sports car with tons of power... has the interior space and convenience of an SUV... as well as a super functional truck bed for most of your home, yard, work and play/hobbie/activity needs and tasks. Hyundai nailed it on this one. Everywhere I go this thing is snapping heads around. Great overall value. I highly recommend checking this thing out if your even moderately interested or even curious... you won’t be disappointed.

I just bought one and run it in my tree service. Great looking for bidding work and...Great for tossing in chainsaws, ropes, sectioned polesaws, tools such as shovels and rakes etc. with the cover open or closed. But you get style and very nice driving smoothness as well. I also like the ability to lock the tonneau cover from under it and then lock the tailgate so saws and tools are secure when I am too tired to bring them in. We have a LOT of theft here in Cinci. One thing I would have made available as an accessory/option would be a removable rack near the tailgate that matches up with the roof rack/s. Given that ladders and for me a pole chainsaw (bout the only tool I can't carry except my giant chainsaws) could be put up there and tied down.

The videos on the Yak Ranch are the best because we get to see practical application of the trucks being tested. I hope we see a lot of electric trucks tested out with David and his ranch soon!

The one accessory that made my life much easier was the bed extender. The only downside is that the backup camera no longer functions since it's pointed at the ground. Luckily I installed a dashcam and routed the rear camera in the plastic trim by the rear window and use that as my main backup camera.

I'm in love with the Santa Cruz! It's something I will buy because it doesn't remind me of a truck, compares to the Maverick...The Maverick is for someone who owned a truck and want to downsize to something smaller or want a truck that is more economical... They don't care about all the tech features in cars. Just want something utilitarian and affordable. The Santa Cruz is for someone who wants a SUV. But needs the practicality of a truck bed. It's business in the front. Party in the back! Also, wants the tech features of a SUV... Hence why the base Maverick XL don't offer cruise control and power mirrors with steel wheelies. Which is typical Ford base minimum features in their trucks. The Santa Cruz tonneau cover is a feature that gives that SUV feel by storing personal cargo. Which is something I prefer to have. Good thing it's an optional feature and not something standard for those who don't need it.

This is perfect for light duty. Couple mountain bikes in the back, Hauling some oversized stuff that normally won't fit in a car. You can even put sleeping bags in the back with tailgate down.

I plan on getting this. I need a comfy ride, and something good for everyday, road trips and visiting my cousin's ranch. I'm pretty excited.

I am a fan of small trucks, I had a 2010 canyon until it got destroyed in a hurricane and it was a great runabout and chore truck. I currently have a new Tacoma and it is massive compared to the canyon

please note! while the tonneau cover does occlude the 4x8 sheets, loaded with 10-12 sheets of plywood would will DEFINITELY be at the weight limit for that tailgate, so you should not consider it too much of a problem unless you intend to go rogue with your tailgate weight limit.

I've had the non turbo version, base model, payed 26k OTD, love it, use it as my daily driver and callout truck for RV repair, the locking toolbox holds all my power tools nicely and the rear seat is nice for keeping tool bags in. overall been a great lil truck

The Santa Cruz has self leveling rear suspension standard on all models. It started pumping itself up or airing down as needed as the suspension compresses and decompresses while driving. This is a tremendous help for ride comfort and stability.

Not everyone needs or wants a full size truck, I was excited when the ranger came back to the US/Can market. The Maverick and Santa Cruz are interesting, and I guess I hope the are a success because I'd like to see more competition in this trucklet segment.

The Limited has a self leveling shock setup. You need to check the rear sag after driving a little to allow the system to level out.

Will you be testing out the Ridgeline you have on hand? I know the bed was set up to handle sheets of plywood flat without any additional set up.

Since you guys are finally acknowledging that a less than half ton, unibody, awd, independent suspension truck with about 1600lbs of payload and 5000lbs of tow capacity is in fact capable of doing the jobs most half ton owners are actually doing, how about you follow up and do this same thing with the Ridgeline on the farm? The larger cab and extra 14 or so inches of bed length and extra 10 inches of bed width ought to make things interesting. Not to mention the more advanced awd system.

The Maverick, Santa Cruz, and Ridgeline, get the job done. I will admit that the Maverick is the best value.

The video y'all did with the hybrid was encouraging because that was the FWD hybrid and it survived. Comparing this to that is apples to oranges. A fair comparison to the hybrid Mav would be a FWD Santa with base. I'd be interested to see that, BTW. Can't wait to see AWD Mav vs AWD Santa as I think that'll give us a good idea of how these two really stack up. I love watching y'all's videos!

I have a ram 1500 big horn with the hemi engine. I don’t use it as a work truck. I just like the plush ride, the ability to haul something if I need it, I have had a truck whether it was a van or a pick up truck since 1974. I do not depend on other people for favors.. I spotted this Santa Cruz that I did not know even existed yesterday here in February 20 22 on KZfaq. I would definitely have considered that vehicle when I was pick up truck shopping in 2017. I have a utility trailer which I find to be much easier to haul things like a mattress and box springs or my riding mower, or 4 x 8 sheets of plywood and risking scratching and damaging my ram pick up. I’ve had that trailer since 1998 hauling dirt bikes for myself and my two sons.. it was then that I found it having a trailer like that is indispensable, so I really don’t need a large pick up while I have that one ton capacity trailer.. it’s also easier to haul a refrigerator in the upright position as you should on the trailer because I can drop the tailgate on the trailer which is a ramp, and wheel a refrigerator onto the trailer. Try that with a very high 4 x 4 pick up truck.. One thing that got my attention was the gas mileage of the Santa Cruz. My ram 1500 V8 hemi gets the same gas mileage city. On the highway, my ram has gotten 26 miles to the gallon with the cruise set at 65…. not only that, I have double the horsepower, and I feel that my ram is much safer in the event of a crash. Plus, my ram has seating for six people, and, the cleverly designed backseat folds up and a sub floor folds doen to a flat surface that two people can sleep on that flat floor… my wife has a newer Honda CRV. But my wife prefers riding in my ram. She loves all the room and sitting up high.. Maybe in a few years I will check out the Santa Cruz, but I tend to keep my trucks a lLong time..I bought a new Econoline van for hauling my motorcycles in 1977, it was a 1978 model. I kept that van for 31 years.., it only had 67,000 miles on it when I sold it to a salvage yard. It had a good engine and transmission. But I didn’t trust it anymore from the corrosion underneath after 31 years.. it had so few miles because I rode my motorcycles commuting 8 months of the year commuting even in the rain, and my wife had a car that we would use most of the time since the truck was a little rougher ride compared to her car.. We will see if I still have my heavily rust proofed with fluid film ram 1500 in 31 years..I’m not sure there will even be gasoline in 31 years I know from being retired from the electric generation industry, that there is a crisis looming in the future. It takes over 10 years to get all the studies, permits, to jump through all the government hoops, red tape, to build a single power station. It takes over 15 years to build one in California right now, who knows how long it will take in the future.. so if the future is going to be electric cars, I can’t really see that happening because. Let’s say today, right now in 2022, that every car in california was an electric car…..and lets say that every watt of electricity in that state from every source , hydro, solar, wind, fossil fuel, atomic generated power was deticated exclusively to just charging car batteries. That means there is no electricity for infrastructure, like hospitals, schools, traffic lights, malls, prisons, water or sewage, homes, none of them are getting any of this power dedicated just for charging car batteries if every car in California right now I was an electric car.. all of that power focused just on charging the cars, right now, wouldn’t even come close to meeting that goal.. if they have a grand plan of eliminating fossil fuel burning cars, and going to electric only cars, they are uninformed, sleeping dreamers.. The electric industry in this country is already aware of that fact. But nobody is listening, especially in California.. predictions are, that the price of electricity will skyrocket to somewhere around $.60 per kilowatt. In California, rolling Brown outs, and blackouts will be the norm.. actually, they are now during heat waves in California, yet, they are not building power generation facilities. They’re actually very eager to shut them down in the name of environmentalism.. Good luck

Santa Cruz has been great since I’ve had it the past few months. I have an F250 also so I went for the little truck with the most comfort for light day to day jobs. Only thing I wish it had was more premium features, a limited should come with power passenger seats. Memory. Power folding mirrors….

If Hyundai made a racking system for the bed rails and roof, you could carry a couple of bikes, skis, etc. and still keep the tonneau cover. I really dig the looks of the Santa Cruz.

That's a really good test. If you needed 20 bags of sweet feed for the livestock the Santa Cruz would have no problem hauling it home.

Hi! Are there any plans to do a video testing out the Santa Cruz in snowy conditions? This rig is fast making it to my shortlist of potential replacements for my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. But living in Canada, snow performance is a SIGNIFICANT factor in deciding upon a vehicle.

I’m buddy had a Subaru Brat back in the day. Was a great farm truck.

We also had the Ford Courier, the Datsun, the Toyota, the Isuzu pup, and the VW Caddy.

What I noticed is the Maverick was carrying some 600 lbs more than this and had the same amount of squat and had more suspension travel left to go compared to this. This truck is definitely pushing its limits more than the Maverick was, yet this vehicle supposedly has more payload capacity. And in the Maverick video, they actually loaded MORE weight than the vehicle was rated for and it looked like it could have put up with more. To me that tells me Ford is slightly under-rating their payload capacity while Hyundai is either over-rating it or stating exactly where it maxes out...

It seems like a really nice mix of suv/ and truck for most people. Obviously if your doing crazy work you need to invest in a real heavy duty truck. But it’s nice to have the option of good gas mileage with interior luxury and the ability to do typical home owner runs to the local Home Depot and not have to pay $80 to have material shipped to your house, plus you can add a small trailer to this if needed pretty impressed with this actually

Tommy I put at raptor 700r 2020 in my Santa Cruz sel it’s fits perfect
