Does the OM-1 paired with the 12-100mm f/4 Pro lens with Sync-IS mean you can do macro like shooting?
Well, a trip to a local wood for a bit of a mushroom hunt was the perfect test and we were absolutely blown away with what we found!
So come for a wander with me and see what I thought on the way and see some of the images I managed to capture.

Yes it takes very nice close-ups. It is perhaps the most versatile M43 lens.

Lovely video. I'm enjoying you showcasing what the 12-100 can do and you took some cracking shots there - both the "macro" and the general woodland scenes.

Thanks Steve! No idea what next week's video will contain but I think a bit more woodland wouldn't go amiss to unwind after this week! New lens won't arrive in time I don't think but that'll get an airing soon 😉

Brilliant! My favorite shot is at 10:30 of the video. Thanks for the inspiration to try this with my own 12-100. Perfect antidote to my G.A.S. Try something new with what I've already got!

I really enjoyed all those close-up shots Leigh, they had a lovely moody but warm feel. I haven’t tried them on this lens yet but I got a set of 3 extension tubes for my OM-1. That would make the 12-100mm even more macro-ish 😅 Another highly enjoyable video Leigh, thanks.

Thanks Stephen! Be interesting to see if the extensions would work that's for sure! Could be rather an interesting test and it should allow use of the tele-converter too for extra zoom!

Hi Leigh. Have you tried the inbuilt 2x teleconverter on the OM 1 with the 12-100? It's something I would normally dismiss, but saw a video on KZfaq and the results looked really good. I have done a few test shots in the garden with the 12-100 and the 30mm macro, and it's something I would give a go if I needed to get in really close with the 12-100 👍

I'll be honest I've never tried the built in teleconverter as I was rather underwhelmed by it on my e-m1 mk2. But I'll have to give it a try now you've brought it up just to see what it's like!

Incredible results hand held Leigh and looking forward to running a no tripod regime I am however LUMIX G9 shooter so presume with lack of in body stabilisation as an addition won’t match the dizzy heights of a second hand held

Hi Leigh, lovely images as always. I have the Olympus EM 1 MK3 plus the 12-40 f2.8 pro lens and I'm looking to add ether the 12-100 f4 pro or the 40-150 f4 pro. I seem to remember in one of your earlier videos you saying that you had the 12-40 f 2.8 pro too. I wondered if you might consider doing a video of your thoughts on the 12-40 pro lens, and which of the other two lenses would complement it. Keep up the good work. Clive

Thanks Clive! I have to confess I've actually traded my 12-40 f/2.8 Pro II in against a 40-150 f/2.8 Pro which should be arriving soon. Since switching to the 12-100 f/4 Pro it wasn't getting any use so figured I'd swap out for a well regarded zoom that will work with my teleconverter too. So to answer your question, I'd go for the 12-100 as it's a stunner of a lens then maybe look at the 40-150 afterwards. If you don't intend using a teleconverter with it the 40-150 f/4 is a fine bit of glass which would work great with the 12-100. I will admit though, since buying the 12-100 I've hardly had it off the camera - it really is that versatile and stunning with the Sync-IS too!

Thanks enjoyed as usual Leigh I have a 5D mark 11 so would be interested in seeing the comparison even between it and the OMD-1 which I am thinking of getting Paul

Thanks Paul. I'll definitely get something set up to do some comparisons between the 5D, E-M1 Mk1 and the OM-1. No idea what sort of thing to do with it as yet, but I'm sure something will come up!
