To help counter China, the U.S. military is racing to develop a fleet of next-generation drones. For the Pentagon, it’s not just a matter of gaining the technological edge. It’s a race against the clock, as Beijing has militarized islands in the South China Sea, and President Xi Jinping has ordered his military to be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027.
Some experts are skeptical the U.S. military can work fast enough to meet its goals.
Chapters:

1:49 Scaling up
4:07 Keeping up with China
U.S. vs. China
This original video series explores the rivalry between the two superpowers’ competing efforts to develop the technologies that are reshaping our world.

China installed more new industrial robots in just the last 12 month than the total number of industrial robots in the US, and it's accelerating at >7% YoY China also consumes more electrical power than the next 5 countries combined, that is US + India + Russia + Japan + Brazil. China just added more solar, just solar, in the last 12 month than the total power generation of Germany, more wind than the total generation of UK, and China's solar production capacity just reached 1x total US power generation per year. China is approaching Type 1 civilization, US is nowhere even remotely near the same league, financial services might give you GDP, but its not real industry.

@@TheStrangeBloke@TheStrangeBloke a lot of things can be done and jamming is just one of them. You can jam the communication signal from operator/controller to drone, jam gps signal, you can also spoof gps signal, go man-in-the-middle to highjack the drone ... And this list is not exhaustive. Concerning China industrial advantages, it won't be easy to beat, they have succeeded in being autonomous and very fast in R&D while America was being industrialized (in the name of profit for a few), they have the fastest computers, they even have 6G Internet, the only "cheap" HD IR payloads are from InfiRay, not FLIR, they have mastered maths and computing ... It's never too late I guess, but it's still very late, they have plundered U.S. technology for so long (and they are not the only ones) that America's fantastic technological edge is almost nullified. And with the woke atmosphere and the hidden drive to turn America into a socialist utopia populated with youngsters who firmly turned their back on science, I don't see how the great America of yore can come back frontstage. Just check how the US is struggling to provide federal agencies with drones, none of the american drones can do what chinese ones (Dji, Autel) are capable of at an affordable price point. The industrial capability is simply not there. America has very advanced military research, but the link to commercial application is more difficult than in China where the CCP is in charge of EVERYTHING, even commercial companies are part CCP endeavours!

Taiwan is a legitimate and historic property of all the Chinese people and not only to a fraction of them and there is no American support or weapons that will ever change this reality. Taiwan is a Chinese domestic matter and no American or anyone else's business. If the Taiwanese, smarter they are compared with Ukrainians insist on relying on Americans for their security they will certainly end abandoned like Vietnam, South Korea, Lebanon, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and, obviously, Ukraine. Options for Taiwan are two: 1- Peacefull reunification or, 2- Reunification as a pile of rubble. Insisting on American partnership and expecting it to, this time, work for Taiwan is pure insanity!

Scale and supply chain means everything. Japan had arguably the best navy in the West Pacific in 1941, but the US had an immensely strong manufacturing base which allowed them to rebuild 100x over despite the Pearl Harbor losses. Yes you do have a point, Chinas manufacturing capacity is just to great. They’re about 5x the size of the U.S., theirs no way that we can match it. But I think that the comparison is still wrong. It’s not china vs. the U.S., rather china vs U.S., Japan, South Korea, Australia, etc. and also the sophistication of technology will also hamper the amount of production scale, for every 1 the U.S. builds maybe 3-5 the Chinese might build, but that’s just the U.S. by itself.

I think that this whole thing is grossly overblown. I’m not saying that china is a pushover, rather it’s not as scary as people make it out to be. Chinas disadvantages outweigh the U.S. ones exponentially. 1) in a potential conflict, it wouldn’t just be the U.S., rather the U.S. and its allies. 2) the fact that china is fighting so close to home puts its industry at risk of being targeted. 3) the invasion of Taiwan would be the largest sea invasion in history (posing logistical problems that have never been seen before). 4) its trade routes can be easily blockaded far away from the Chinese mainland (putting a strain on the industry’s and public). 5) the complexity of technology today would put a big hamper on Chinas scalability. China is not the only nation that has this problem, but if it were to invade, it would exponentially make these problems worse.

what is US drone tech edge. if china can make a long range(10K km) middle sized drones, US aggressive aircraft carriers will collapse. their submarines will also be surrounded by chinese undersea drones and be monitored by small drone-like satellites.

Whenever people mention Chinese products, they will emphasize its quantity advantage and cost advantage. It seems that DJI is a cheap and large amount of industrial garbage? Times have long changed, especially for China.

This is how they start making up reasons (excuses?) and then money. Whenever an election coming up, politicians must make up some problems that better miles away because so you won’t be confronted at your door steps. Easy.

Why don't Americans spend a little more money on themselves, repairing their country's roads, building more houses for the homeless, and renovating the nation's long-neglected bridges and airports. It can only be said that Americans are too internationalist, preferring to spend money on a pointless war with a country thousands of miles away rather than keeping some for themselves.

All of this autonomous drone need battery. China have the best high energy density in the world. Seem like US already lose from that technological front let alone intuitive flight control, long range communication, video transmission where DJI a Chinese company have the lead.

China's military equipment and weaonry are junk, ask Nigeria, Myanmar, Paksitan and any country that was a customer of those junks, they will tell you the same: *Pakistan* inducted *Chinese multi-role frigates* as part of their efforts to strengthen its sea frontiers, however, *these frigates are giving jitters to the Pakistani Navy due to the defective critical components and poor service* from Chinese manufacturers. *Di Valerio Fabbri, writing in Geopolitica.* said that these have forced the Pakistani Navy to operate these frigates with degraded operational capabilities, compromising some of the key mission objectives with which these ships were bought at a high price. After the commissioning of the frigates, the Pakistani Navy found out that *the onboard imaging device of the FM90 (N) missile system was defective because of a faulty indication on display,* reported Geopolitica. *The system was unable to lock on to the target* which, in a way, *made the missiles ineffective,* thereby defeating one of the critical mission objectives. As it turned out, these ships were found to be equipped with a *defective infra-red sensor (IR17) system and SR 60 radars, two of the most important sensors on board,* which are used for air and surface search. These search and track radars were found to exhibit faults during high-power transmissions, substantially degrading their operational utility. *The IR 17 sensors on all the ships were found to be defective and had to be discarded,* with the replacement yet to be fitted, reported Geopolitica. Another set of common faults in the Chinese-built frigates was found in its main engines. These frigates are powered by four diesel engines. *A critical engine defect has been low engine speed caused by high turbocharger exhaust temperatures, especially in engines 3 and 4, on all the frigates,* said Fabbri. *A high degree of degradation was noticed in the engine crankcase and liner* which undermined the coolant chemistry in the ships. Lube oil degradation and deterioration of vibration isolators were some other faults in the engines. There were other specific deficiencies in different ships. *PNS Aslat, for instance, exhibited poor radar performance. The ASO-94 Sonar system on Aslat was erratic in its performance* and on inspection it was found it was caused by faulty computing units. Likewise, *Aslat’s SR-47 BG Search Radar was below par in performance and repairs were carried out with cannibalised parts from other F22P ships.* The frigate developed a serious snag during an operational deployment in the Gulf of Aden, reported Geopolitica. *An equally serious deficiency noticed in PNS Zulfiqar,* the first Chinese frigate to be commissioned, was the NG 16 single barrel 76mm gun mounted on it. *The gun, equipped to engage other ships and aircraft and defend against anti-ship missiles, developed numerous faults in the mechanical and electrical parts,* severely limiting its utility. Meanwhile, *PNS Saif has been running with a problematic HP5 stabiliser gyro* since its commissioning. *A gyroscopic fin stabilizer, found on both sides of a ship’s hull, prevents excess rolling of a ship, in either direction."*

DJI doesn’t mind at all. DJI is producing civilian use drone only not for military . Making civilian level drones for US military only is like making iPhone for US military only. It will be extremely expensive and low quality by lack of enough demand.
