This poor rust bucket was barely recognizable as a Tonka Truck! There were enough clues left for me to be able to tell that it was a 1973 Mighty Tonka Roller, model # 3910. But aside from that, this poor thing had not been shown any love over the decades, and was in serious need of a restoration! At first glance this looked like an impossible restoration that just needed to be scrapped for spare parts. But with a little love, a few replacement parts, and LOTS of metal work, I was able to restore this beauty back to it's original glory!

Dear Santa, at 55 years old, I realize I'm not a young kid anymore, but I've been extra extra good this year, so could you put this under my tree this year? It's been too long since I've played with a Tonka toy.

This has to be my favourite out of all your restorations, the love and workmanship you gave to the roller is commendable, it really is. In just a few minutes in watching your videos it’s a thumbs up every time. Now, I’m concerned you’ll run out of Tonka models to bring back to life, hope you something else to share. Best wishes from the UK.

Same here. I didn't even know people did toy restorations and now I can't stop watching. I think what makes them so satisfying is that we get the instant gratification of seeing it all happen in 20 minutes instead of over several episodes.

One of my trade school instructors (74-76) was a design engineer at Tonka in Minnetonka, MN way back in the 60's. Might have been on the start up team. I can't remember. I didn't have him for a class instructor. But, he was always in the shop showing young lads how to master the trades. He really loved tool and die work for metal and plastics. This was extra fun for me to watch. Thank you.

Toy restoration should really be more of a thing than it is. Imagine having a toy with all these memories, restoring it to pass it to the next generation so it can continue to accumulate more memories of good time. The world needs more objects with such positive energy concentrations but they all end up getting tossed away...

Ok, 3 questions & a statement. Statement #1. That is freaking awesome! That thing looks better than it did new! Great job! Question #1. What do you do with the items after you restore them? Question #2. Do you sell off any pieces and if so, where can I find them for purchase? & Question #3.Do you ever measure the hours it takes to complete a job? I mean with this one, it looks like it took a large amount of time... With filler drying, all the sanding etc. I'd like to know how long the projects take. Bonus statement. You are awesome! You easily got my subscribe and thumbs up!!

+Fred Bosco thanks! Most of the things I restore are put on a shelf in my man cave room. But here lately most of the tonka trucks have been swiped by my 10 year old daughter and filled with Barbies lol. Time spent for this project, not counting drying time overnight, but if I were working somewhere and put it in terms of billable hours, I’d say about 20 hours total. Some of that is spent messing with camera equipment and lighting and trying to find good filming angles though.

When I realize I had these toys when I was a kid, and I tortured them without even knowing they were little pieces of art and very valuable... Damn I feel stupid right now...

Where do you find replacement parts like the cab? I’ve got a mighty loader that’s missing the cab. 🙁

That pitted metal is a pain. I have experimented with Alvin's products in my motorcycle restorations. I have some other industrial repair epoxies products to try myself. I might make a specific video just on trying these out.
