I think the lack of exposure to other countries in the US causes confusion between the concepts of a state, a country, and a continent. Americans regularly "experience" states, so when they hear of someone coming from Asia, or something happening in Canada, they automatically think of these places as being on the same "level" as Wisconsin or Arkansas.

The last guy’s view of the world is completly wrong, The fact is If you would probably never leave your country doesn’t mean you must forbid yourself from learning about other countries that’s just extreme nationalism and Learning about countries and geography in general is not the worst part of your life, I would even argue that learning about countries is very fun since you get to learn about the life of locals, The beautiful sceneries of different countries. I don’t understand this guy’s view of the world at all.

I completely agree bro. The thing is that guy simply doesn't care about other things other than making money for himself. Since, from his point of view, learning about other countries, different cultures and all that stuff, that (for us) is pretty damn cool, doesn't give him the knowledge that allows him to make more money then, for him, geography is the most useless stuff anyone would want to know. He doesn't care about being a knowledgeable and open-minded person bcuz for him such things won't bring joy or happiness

About that last guy; it is a pretty good thing to have knowledge and perspective on the world around you. A world where nobody knew anything about other cultures would maybe result in disrespect to other cultures than your own; that could result in an unstable world with war and colonialism. What a bright thing to imagine, right?

@FBI Wow the projection in this comment is real lol. @FBI I’d be surprised when someone doesn’t know knowledge that I’d consider basic but I’d hardly say it’s embarrassing. There’s tons of knowledge on the same level that I don’t know and I’m sure the same goes for you. And your go to is the 7 continents or even just continents in general? Literally so many people disagree on what defines a continent, how many there are, and what their names are. That’s a terrible example for basic knowledge lol. Saying stuff like people like him will never make good friends honestly makes you sound like a lunatic lol. He doesn’t give a fuck about geography it’s not that real 😂

@@texasjoehotdog1838 I'm from Germany and we call this basic knowledge "Allgemeinwissen". It's considered to be something everybody needs to know to help you through life. It's not like you need to know it because someone will ask you about it. Like knowing to not immediately trust new people, how the government works, that you need money to live and work to get money, etc... Like the name suggests: basic knowledge. Another important aspect of it is what exactly the land under our feet and beyond the sky is and what types of places there are. This knowledge is expected of everyone to know to find their place in society and shape their view of the world. So that you don't end up living your entire life in a pond not realizing the vastness of the sea that the world is and missing out on life. But that's just my opinion on this, I won't force anyone to have basic knowledge, but I expect everyone to have it.

@@josefbayarsaikhan7933 Well knowing not to blindly trust new people and how to work/get money I can see being useful information in someone’s life not just information to have. Knowing that Kazakhstan is one of the biggest countries? Not so much lol. Knowing how the government works to some extent would be useful too depending on your civic rights and duties but I feel like you might be overestimating how much your average person knows about their government even in Germany lol. Do you have every element on the periodic table memorized? Or even just those aside from synthetic elements. That’s the land under our feet and beyond the sky, the world around us. It’s cool to know but I definitely don’t expect everyone to know it. I’m curious too where you’d draw the line on what you expect people to know. The top 100 biggest countries? The top 100 most populous countries? Every country? Every country including breakaway states? No bs I’m legitimately curious.
