I genuinely cannot understand how my fellow Americans cannot distinguish countries, continents, cities, and american states. I took AP Human Geography last year and we clearly went through all of the differences. We had to memorize the whole globe and I know that regular Geography classes do the same thing. I'm baffled at how they forget that knowledge

I completely agree bro. The thing is that guy simply doesn't care about other things other than making money for himself. @@texasjoehotdog1838 I'm from Germany and we call this basic knowledge "Allgemeinwissen". It's considered to be something everybody needs to know to help you through life. It's not like you need to know it because someone will ask you about it. Like knowing to not immediately trust new people, how the government works, that you need money to live and work to get money, etc... Like the name suggests: basic knowledge. Another important aspect of it is what exactly the land under our feet and beyond the sky is and what types of places there are. This knowledge is expected of everyone to know to find their place in society and shape their view of the world. So that you don't end up living your entire life in a pond not realizing the vastness of the sea that the world is and missing out on life. But that's just my opinion on this, I won't force anyone to have basic knowledge, but I expect everyone to have it.

Its more that we don't teach geography. Part of that also involves not having many international borders nearby, and most young people in the US haven't travelled outside of the country in their life. US education is much more effective in other areas.
