While Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has allowed many to experience the trading card game digitally, there were many that came before it, with Yu-Gi-Oh! Eternal Duelist Soul being the first to simulate the TCG. With how easy the game's campaign can be, we're going to give ourselves the seemingly impossible challenge of trying to beat all of the game's opponents and crowning ourselves the King of Games using only the deck of Yugi's best friend, Joey Wheeler!

While I love this type of video and can't wait to see how it concludes, I would love to see how Joey's deck fairs in future games, maybe in gx or 5ds era games, with of course you being able to choose what iteration of Joey's deck to use. I think it's funny to see a joey type deck against stardust or e heroes

Apart from Master Duel, which *does* have pretty extensive single-player campaigns, and is the current game Yugioh has, I'd also recommend Legacy of the Duelist, if you want to relieve the anime specifically. Alternatively, for a slightly less modern, but still newer experience, the multiple games on the DS are also really fun.

My personal nostalgia always makes me emulate the World Championship Tournament games. Specifically 2004 and 2006. I looooove playing pyro in 2006. Ultimate Baseball Kid plus Gravity Bond is killer😊

I *think* that this was the game where I cheaped through some fights with change of heart + megamorph *and* liked suijin for having a buncha defense to use their ability to ruin my opponent. But that was like a decade ago...cool to see it again!

One thing worth noting. In order to create the illusion that opponents are improving, certain cards are added at random. Typically, these will be normal monsters, but they may also be spell/traps.This means the actual Joey deck you face might be better or worse than what we have here. Funnily enough, nearly every duelist has a chance to play Exodia's limbs. However, only 4 opponents can have exodia's head, so they can't win with Exodia.

Oh God this game... I remember feeling so cheated as a kid that the enemy would always attack my facedown cards it could beat but never the ones with a high enough defense to tank the hit.

What would’ve made this challenge more fun is being able to add an opponents card to your deck. That way you have a better chance of beating the overall challenge and adds a little variety to the duels on your end.

I actually debated on doing a "Battle City" challenge before, but it ultimately devolves quickly into "What unique DM staples (or the strongest attack monster) does [Opponent] have that I can most effectively use?" Since there's 24 opponents in the game, meaning 23 cards changed out, the final decklist would be actually busted compared to what the AI opponents can use.

I activate my trap card grave robber and it allows me to use one of your cards in your graveyard. I take copycat and use its effect, it allows me to copy your catchphrase "In America".

I never realized the level 1 duelists in this game had semi competent decks. All I remember them doing was setting weak vanillas and losing after 3 or 4 turns.

you know you inspired me to do a run of EDS as well and I'm planning on doing a run where I use only 1 monster but with very weak stats and I can't use monster's like sangan and witch of the black forest to cheat it out in the deck.

The "simpler" times of Yu-gi-oh! was incredibly slow, and it basically had no identity as its own game considering that it was pretty much like Magic: The Gathering. Also it was an outright mess with cards like Yata Garasu or Cyber Stein out and about around the first era competitively. Albeit, what it has now become is a game that is slowly declining considering the lack of new players.

@@mcihay246 Those were banned is the thing. The least insane Yu-gi-oh is literally just slow Yu-gi-oh with the OP cards banned. "Not having an identity" is ok if the alternative is the identity being the most broken in half game ever.

@@Sianostrakarenrenren Oh definitely. Which is one of the reasons why it's so difficult for newcomers to pick up and play the game, regardless of Master Duel. The very early stages were... Meh. Present day Yu-gi-oh! is somewhat of a mess. The TCG is at least able to not be as miserable as the OCG (Thanks Maxx 'C').

I was using Joey's deck that the game used as an AI opponent, and the in-game deck didn't contain Flame Swordsman.

Oh, for sure. I could probably make a much better Joey-themed deck, but that wouldn't be what the game gave the computer opponent of Joey here, which I made myself use.
