A while ago we completed Nadia's compulsory perfect 10 Bars routine. But can we as a group complete the even harder Voluntary Perfect 10?!
Special guests Sophia & Gracie rocked it (and did all the hard skills we couldn't do, thanks girls 😍)

Nadia could never have performed like Simone can, and Simone could never perform like Nadia did. The apparatus is vastly different and each trained to excel on the bars as they were. Nadia was the greatest of her time. Simone is the greatest of hers.

honestly, its funny, noone would attempt an olympic routine from todays time just trying it for one day. The moves are super uncommon today and the bar was set even closer, so going from highbar to lowbar was just reaching up more or less. But i agree they would need to put in a lot of training to become good at that routine and buy a new set of bars

@@tarantellalarouge7632 Yeah, it was a different kind of training & performance style back then - based on flexibility, precision & flow of movement, not strenght. So, puberty was actually working against you, instead of for you like today (bc it makes you stronger). In order to compensate for the body naturally losing its effortless, prepubescent agility as it matured, they had to become *as light as possible.* And for that, they were training while undergoing a very restrictive food regime at the same time. That's why Nadia (along with most other old school gymnasts) looked like a twig... and also why the average age of professional gymnasts was so low, with most retiring before or around 20.

Not to knock nadias skill one bit, but i think the fact she was so young and so tiny really worked in her favor with how she flew so “easily” - other gymnasts of the time often commented they just couldnt do those tricks with extra weight. Nadia also was amazingly talented and worked tirelessly… but i think it was a right time right age thing too. She may not have been able to pull off same skills at 14-15. It is magic to see her even today ❤

As a competitive US gymnast in the 1980s, there is nothing I loathed more than belly-beats. Unfortunately, I retired before the wide set bars became the norm. I had bruises on my hips all through my teen years due to those beats.

Ah a bars routine from my competing days! The key to the mount was to start from one leg & walk into the turn, which allows you to turn faster & more easily and in a more controlled way (you were trying to do it for a standing 2-footed jump start). Impressed how well you did on the Radochla and Comaneci as they're tricky to learn! The techniques are quite similar - in the Radochla the rotation speed is slightly less with more diagonal travel, whereas the Comaneci needs faster, more vertical rotation. Hats off to all of you, though!

Set the top bar to a comfortable height for you. Then to set the distance between the bars, you hop up on the low bar, grabbing the high bar, and figure out how much you need to adjust to make it where you’re holding the top bar, while finding where your hips are going to wrap around the lower bar naturally. You REALLY need to get that distance right. Trust me, if you don’t and beat the bar, it HURTS!!…if that makes sense at all. Probably not. 😂
