I still knew how I liked the modern design of Windows Vista as a child. Considering that it comes from 2005, it still looks quite modern.

I think it’s needed to modify Windows Boot Manager of already installed Windows Vista because exactly it requires ACPI compatibility, but I don’t know if it’s possible

There is an amazing group of people on the MSFN forums modifying DSDT tables and getting Ryzen 7000's/Intel 13th Gen working on XP, so for Vista, I'd expect something similar. Very neat video!

I manage to install Vista on Asus (1150 socket) PC. I was using standard HDD (not SSD). This is what I do: 1. convert C partition from GPT to MBR, 2. Changing in Bios this setting AHCI to IDE (cuz of better compatibility with older drivers). Keep in mind that some drivers are just impossible to find, for example: Intel Management Engine, Intel integrated gpu and AMDA00 (Asus) drivers. My biggest progress was to boot PC to see desktop, but cuz of not enough drivers I was not able to use Vista in normal way. Conclusion: Is it worth it? Nope, unless you don't want to test games.

Try on AMD modern PC, I heard there is more success. Vista x64 has issues on Intel systems after Ivy Bridge, not just Haswell. The issue was only corrected in Server 2008 sadly.

when you got that acpi.sys error it could just be a disabled uefi boot and other bios settings i got that error while downloading windows 7 and changing to uefi boot and turning off secure boot helped me

Every time I run it in csm mode, not UEFI, but I’ll try to disable secure boot

maybe you need to disable UEFI boot mode and enable LEGACY/UEFI boot this lets older operating systems boot on newer hardware. also try disabling secure boot

I believe Aero was Win7 not Vista. I have a laptop running Vista and when I go into settings for the desktop Aero theme isn't there, just looked last night.

@@gotindrachenhart Aero is something that Vista Ultimate and Home Premium should have, it's in in-built feature. Only Vista home basic didn't come with Aero

As a 15 yr old who used vista first time in 2020 on a VM, performance sucked, bur performance on my semi upgraded 2007 pc is good, Geforce GT 730 and Intel Core 2 duo E6750 2.66 ghz is good for Vista (very good)
