I believe an easy song to introduce for the person looking to introduce contemporary music is Waymaker. I believe the chords are repetitive throughout the whole song.

I play worship electric guitar. What I do to simplify the music is to play "regular" chords instead of the "fancy" chords. For example, instead of an Asus, I'll just play an A chord, or I'll replace a bmin chord with a B power chord when we are not playing softly. Keep the chords simple! Also, when you look at most contemporary music, you'll notice patterns in the verses and chorus. Most worship music seems to be some version of a 1-4-5-6 chord progression. I hope that helps!

This is great to have a standard. The church as a whole should have written standards for those who are serving and those who are leading. The leadership standards should be higher.

I would definitely suggest the worship team devotions. Contemporary songs are much easier to play once you realize that it’s submitting to that 4 chord progression which is one thing I’ve really talked to my team about lately. We were a church that was piano and hymn only not too long ago. Now it’s closer to 60 % contemporary and 40% hymns. I agree with Spencer and I suggest you watch more of his videos! They have helped me a lot since becoming the team leader back in the fall of 2023. I agree with him, skip the instrumentals etc. For our team when we look at the chord charts and see the chorus goes into instrumental then verse we just skip the instrumental part. Example: if chorus ends in G and next verse starts in G, we will stay on the G for a measure and start right into the next verse. It’s congregational worship not look at how good I play this solo! Easy songs: Revelation Song, Great are You Lord, Build My Life, Cornerstone, I Speak Jesus. Openers: House of the Lord (again skip the extra stuff), Battle Belongs, How Great (psalm 145). Easy songs to help transition from hymn to contemporary are modern hymns like Living Hope, In Christ Alone, even do the Doxology but do the God Be Praised version! Hope that helps!

Simply put….NO…..they shouldn’t even if your laws says it’s ok. Come on guys, this is simple stuff. I’m amazed that these sorts of questions have to be answered. Read the Bible and find out how one is supposed to live when living unto the Lord, it’s by presenting your bodies as a living sacrifice, HOLY & acceptable unto the Lord. There’s so many admonitions about what one should & shouldn’t do once you are born again. Grace isn’t given as a license to sin. We need some holiness teaching in Churches of today and for people prepared to stand up and call believers into a walk of holiness unto the Lord. It’s so lacking today.

I have never smoked weed and never will. Smoke doesn’t belong in my lungs. But I’m not convinced it’s all that different from alcohol. I read online that medical marijuana doesn’t alter the mind the same way recreational cannabis does. I don’t see how it couldn’t be possible for a reasonable dose to not get you high, but simply gladden the heart as a little alcohol does. I doubt I’ll ever test this theory but it’s interesting to hear people’s opinions. I just wonder how much is societally rather than morally motivated. 🤷‍♂️

I have heard pastors show that some of the instruction to the church in the Bible was culturally based, too, though. So I don't know that we can discount "it looks a certain way to society" as not being a good enough reason to say something is inappropriate for leadership.

Sin is doting something wrong, whether you know it is wrong or not. If you do not know, then it is not held to your account, but it is still sin. Iniquity is imperfection that Mankind has because they are not God. Because we are NOT God, we all have the flaw of iniquity which given sufficient time and opportunity, will cause all people to sin.

I stopped smoking weed and hash 22 years ago after becoming a Christian. I found prayers didn't work when high, and I quit because being in contact with God was more important, You need to give up something to walk with the Lord. What you present at the tabernacle/church stage should be worthy of God and not taken lightly. Grace should be shown to church members, but the fool should be corrected. If you want that musician there, take him out of music service and teach him until he is prepared to the job. If he doesn't appreciate this, he's not mature enough and shouldn't be there. If Gods not enough to keep you from getting high you don't fear God, or know him. I still have the temptation in my system, but a quick run through of the consequences, makes it easy to stop it from going anywhere.

As u said most CCM worship tunes are easy. Basically I IV V m6. At minimum you should be able to carry this. But is Weed wrong because govt says its illegal. If a person takes anti depressants is that wrong? I mean they are legal. (I do not partake of THC) if i have a drink at home or smoke a cigar, does that eliminate me from playing on a worship team? This could extend way beyond substance use for what is considered “sin”. What about gluttony/over eating? Would that kick you off worship team? Things to consider. Food for thought. Man. The reason why you're believing since God grew it on Earth were supposed to be able to use it for us and he's okay with that but the truth is the devil is asking you to say that so you can get over your conviction and be comfortable with it but you can't take out parts of the Bible so that your lifestyle can fit pleasing God,it doesn't work like that..... THC inhibits your consciousness when it comes to being able to be in tune with the Holy Spirit which is why you never saw Jesus smoking weed, it makes you aware of a lot of dormant mental positions but it takes you away from being able to be spiritually leaning unto God the way he wants you to be in a balanced way. When you are high on weed you will entertain sin and that is exactly what God does not want you to do it opens the door to justifications that's why it is called a gateway drug

Weed is witchcraft and illegal so yes they need to see if they can be helped but should take a break. Cigarettes r not illegal and no worse than someone who over eats or speeds or doesn't use their blinker or cusses.
