Lovely! I’ve been a fan, long time. I’ve learned to turn turtle necks into a round neck. I just Saved two Chicos sweaters that were in the donate bag. I’ve also learned to treat sweaters as, Fabric! It just never occurred to me that you can cut and re sew a sweater! I even took zipper pants and made them elastic waist. You inspire all of us! More for fat ladies, please. I have altered shirts with gussets.! Love you.

Hi, Catherine, I loved your video - as usual! I found you on my feed several months ago, and couldn't believe there was someone out there who recycles and hacks thrift-store clothing like I do! Concerning serging seams - I almost always sew or baste a seam first, then check for fit. And here's a funny story - many years ago I sewed a pretty silky polyester dress almost entirely on my serger. It fit perfectly. The first time I wore it was to a special church service and I had to get up on the platform and sing a solo. Just before the service started, something felt "funny" at the back of my dress. I asked my friend, and she saw that the princess seams had split / shredded over the hips/bum area! Oh no! What to do??! She said it didn't show much at all because I'd made a navy-blue slip and the dress was a navy print. Boy, was I self-conscious! So - I stitch most seams and then serge just a bit away!

I’m on Vancouver island!! I had the same situation with a similar dress a few years ago - I gave it to a friend. It fit her perfectly and helped her stay cool, so no regrets there. Thanks for all the sewing tips on adjusting clothes to make them wearable 😘. I think I’ve said it before but you really have inspired me to rethink all the clothes I never wear. I’m just about finished a t-shirt alteration and I have a sleeve mod I want to change next. Enjoy your stay on Vancouver island - the weather is perfect today ☀️

Wonderful! This video is excellent! I love to purchase vintage and used clothing , often times for the great quality or interesting fabrics, and refashion them. I have collected 6 shifts with pockets that I have been dreading altering and removing and replacing the pockets, which is what I was taught to do. I have been toying with doing exactly what you have done and now that I see how well you were able to finish this, I will be using this method for sure! Thank you!!

I'm just here to say, although I might never try my hands at something like this, I still watched this video till the end and liked it even before watching it! Because I knew I would love it anyway 😃 your alterations, updates, upgrades, hacks..are all an inspiration to me! And this year, for the first time, I have done a lot of sewing, almost a marathon, for my baby girl's summer wardrobe. And love seeing her wear them! This is a proud mama speaking =) your videos give me inspiration and courage to tackle my own wardrobe, too. Many thanks and a big hug! And.. the dress is gorgeous 😍

Any chance you would do a video on making a skirt into a skort? Adding the short portion underneath? Been trying to do it but struggling a bit with skirts with waistbands & a zipper. Stretchy circle skirts in knit are easy peasy from a pattern. I want to up-cycle/ refashion it. Thanks!
@CatherineSews
@CatherineSews Жыл бұрын
I’ve been thinking about skorts but coming at it from the opposite direction, starting with pants or shorts. I’m not sure if that would help you with your project or not?
@mammastreed5070
@mammastreed5070 Жыл бұрын
@@CatherineSews ahhh! Didn’t think about that!! So would you make a skirt to go over the shorts/pants? I like wearing a skirt to work, especially in the summer but do a lot of bending, carrying furniture or heavy bags, etc and feel like I could be flashing folks without the security of the short part underneath. Sometimes I wear a pair of my husband’s boxers under a skirt🥴😂 just in case. I’d love to see how you envision that. (The project, not me bending over flashing my hubby’s boxers!😉😉)
@annewhitney8809

@@mammastreed5070 have you thought of buying bicycle shorts or the shorts made specifically for “chub rub”. Starting with pants,chopping them off and using the leftover leg pieces would work I think.

I have a pair of pants which are too tight in the crotch. Thinking about turning them into a skirt. Any tips?
@CatherineSews
@CatherineSews Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I wonder if you’d be better to add a gusset to the crotch. If you have any similar fabric, you could cut a diamond shape and sew it into the inseams at the crotch. I’ll add that to my video To Do list but it’ll take me a while to get to it, so hopefully that brief description helps!
@emilysmith2784
@emilysmith2784 Жыл бұрын
@@CatherineSews it’s the height of the crotch that’s the issue. They give me a wedgie 😂 would a gusset fix that? They are a little long so I was going to take them up as well so I could use the fabric from there.
@CatherineSews
@CatherineSews Жыл бұрын
@@emilysmith2784 no, a gusset wouldn’t help then. You can try the technique in this video: kzfaq.infoFRfChoDgOvU?feature=share
