My first Souls game I beat was Dark Souls 2 in October 2021. I wanted to make a challenge to play Bloodborne in the daytime and Batman at night so that Bloodborne would be the second FromSoftware game that I would ever beat, but got caught up with other things and now ending up with two Lord Souls left to collect in DS1

I'm 11 runs deep and haven't even thought of doing this. This seems like a great time.

My first time playing I did this. I quit because I thought it was too hard to play only using the scarce humantity to heal…

Not quite as extreme as skipping estus but I got Dark Souls on PC (pre-remaster). I didn't realise DSmFix existed (the mouse fix) so I got through a good half of the game with a janky ass mouse, and also not using lock on a lot because of it. Once I found out about it it was so much better haha.

This isn't anything close to that, but for the entirety of my first playthrough of DS1, I didn't look at the controls enough and didn't realize that lock-on was a thing. I remember coming back with a new character and thinking to myself, 'man, this game is easier than I remember'.

@@nowahdsi5639 Thats what happened to my little brother, He started watching me play dark souls, and he said he wanted to play. We made a bew character and he skipped the estus and was stuck on ass demon for like an hour. I then told him to go get the item and he beat ass demon on like his second try.

Honestly if you've never tried to climb back up out of tomb of the giants (or ash lake for that matter), then you haven't faced one of the worst experiences you can in a Souls game. I can only imagine the absolute dread of a new player somehow making it all the way down to the bottom of Tomb, finding the golden fogwall, and facing the journey back up.

@@Red-Tower I haven’t faced those two experiences you described, but it sounds like the hell I experienced on my first playthrough getting cursed in the depths. I had no idea what to do, where I was (I was totally lost and kept going around in circles in the bottom levels for eons, dying over and over), where to go, etc.. It was perpetual wandering and dying constantly by a rat swiping at me one time and shit. It seems like forever until I finally got out of there (I was happy just to come across the dog where the butcher was again - a sign I was going to see sunlight again sometime soon), and it really was the best feeling ever to get that purging stone from the church bell tower!

@@Red-Tower i am currently playing DS remastered for the first time ever, and bro, the giants tombs was... i went all the way down in complete darkness until i reached the portal that prevented me to pass..bro going all the way back up was traumatizing (i went down last thursday, and got out friday lmao)

@@Red-Tower my last playthrough was the first time I had done catacombs/TotG before having the lord vessel and have to say, I would not recommend. Severely under leveled and having to deal with those stupid bone wheel enemies almost made me quit.

I often do that for the ring there

In my first playthrough I actually went there to get the covetous silver serpent ring before I even got to anor londo. My friend told me I could do it and I couldn’t resist getting the ring so I went for it and it took me forever and I died a million times but I eventually got the ring and got back out, and I killed pinwheel while I was at it so I had the rite of kindling very early and it was so helpful. It also prepared me for when I eventually had to go there for nito. By that time the area didn’t seem scary or difficult at all, especially because I had already survived it at a much lower level

I accidentally did that on my first playthrough. I reached anor londo and wasn't mentally prepared to fight the "hardest boss" (ornstein and smough) up to that point then I remembered about the catacombs so I went there. It was going so well until I met that damned gold fog gate and realised I had to go back up. Yeah not fun but atleast I knew I was definitely prepared for ornstein & smough.

Yep, when he was commentator for the Sekiro speedrun on GDQ, that's really when he blew up. It was a massive spike! And Elden Ring's popularity afterwards also helped a ton
