Can You Beat Fallout 4 With Only The Mysterious Stranger Perk? (in text form)
I’m gonna spoil the entire video by telling you now that I didn’t play through all of Fallout 4 only using the Mysterious Stranger perk as my method of attack. I’ll explain why. Unlike something like the Pain Train perk, which guarantees damage provided all the requirements are met (strength of 10, power armor, and a fusion core so you can sprint), there is never a 100% chance that the Mysterious Stranger will attack.
The perk has 4 levels. Level 1 requires Luck of 4 and the Mysterious Stranger has a 10% chance to appear when attacking an enemy with VATS. That increases up to 14% at the perk’s 3rd level, but it differs from past games in that Luck has no bearing on how frequently he appears. This means that you can’t use chems or armor to better the odds that he’ll get up and help you. There is a rank 4 for the perk but all it does is increase the likelihood that your critical meter gets filled when he ends someone, which is just about the most useless thing I can imagine. A sandpaper enema/dildo has more value to me than that.
14% odds are not at all great. If you’ve ever save-scummed your way through a speech check in Fallout 3 you know how bad it is. If you attempt it 20 times, statistically you’ll get it about 3 times. But when it comes the Mysterious Stranger, there are more variables to consider. For one thing, it’s not guaranteed that he’ll kill whoever he’s aiming at. At lower levels he probably will, but you don’t get rank 3 of the perk until you’re at level 41. So you’ll be going up against some tough cookies. And we haven’t even gotten into the math of it yet.

This perk is almost completely useless.. most of times he shows up when you where about to do the kill shot ! Or after you have done the most damage and is having fun hitting the enemy on vats.

Did i miss something? The Mysterious stranger has a 10% chance of spawnning yes but my understading of the perk is that the stranger spawns more frequently if you miss your last vats shot

There is also a health threshold that the enemy has to reach before it even calculates the chance. Better off just modding the variables in the Creation Kit so the perk becomes more reasonable to get.

Idea: Avoid killing anything until you get the gun that does the lowest damage in hame, I don’t know exactly what it is but it’s probably an easy search. Now every time you attack an enemy, it does jack shit to it and barely counts as attacking it with the gun, and you can just keep shooting in VATS until the Mysterious Stranger comes

There's more to the Mysterious Stranger spawning than the % chance. There is also an enemy health threshold (I'd have to double check the Creation Kit for specifics), and it has something to do with your last shot.

You can abort VATS before your character attacks, and because you left VATS without killing your target(s), the mysterious stranger will still be there, means you don't have to quick save and load every time.

How you have calculated the chances is actually wrong. What you said would only be true if you had no chance of saving after killing an enemy. Kill one guy save and you are back to 10 percent for each enemy

I'm late but if anyone does this challenge, I feel like it would be worth doing with some kind of mod to guarantee the Stranger shows up.

Nah, that's too easy. Keep the probability as it is, but mod in some 0-damage bullets so that you can ensure the enemies will never die to your own damage, and you won't have to savescum. Still keeps our favorite aspect of a challenge run - the suffering.

ooh also even though you'd have to get the stranger every time with only a 10% chance, it's always a 10% chance because random probability isn't influenced by previous results
