Hey there! As of this comment, there's now closed captioning on the video, in case you were having trouble hearing the narration. I know, the music volume is way too high. Next time, I'll certainly do a better job with the mixing. Then again, next time I'll create the captions alongside the video, instead of hastily adding them post release using the worst caption editor known to mankind. Other than that, I'd like to thank everyone who has watched the video in the less than two weeks since release! Seriously, I didn't dare dream of getting 200 subscribers two weeks ago, and now that number seems so quaint...

I'm not sure if you can do anything about it since it's part of the game, but if you could brighten it up a bit, I think I'd do wonders for the video because I times it as a little caring how little there a to look at since the screen was mostly black.

Incredible work, once again! Your visual editing is absolutely immaculate! There's so many tiny little details such as the character warping onto the screen at 4:18, the music sync (especially during the gathering sessions), and the small little visual jokes sprinkled throughout like the explanation-ception at 5:25 and the camera perfectly following Kluex Avatar's tragic demise at 14:51. The pacing throughout is really solid, as well! None of the sections felt like they overstayed their welcome, and the more tedious sections cut a great balance between showing how long you took without actually making us suffer through any of the pain. The buildup to the "big reveal" near the end genuinely caught me by surprise (Though I really should have noticed, having played the game myself. Oops). I personally would have gone with the original line for the third motivational thing, but I'm a sucker for really cheesy lines, so maybe take that a grain of salt. One small thing to note is that the background music was very loud this episode. I greatly appreciate the Touhou bangers all throughout, but it was genuinely difficult to hear your voice at times. Your offhand remarks (such as the one at 6:00) were especially drowned out by the epic tunes. It's still listenable, but definitely something to tone down slightly for the next time. Thanks for taking the time to put all this together! It was a fantastic watch, and I'm looking forward to whatever challenge you decide to inflict upon yourself next!

I've loved Terraria since I first played it but Starbound was always where I started
@Ventorath
@Ventorath Жыл бұрын
This game just makes me sad tbh. I fucking love its aesthetic and core gameplay. So much better than Terraria in both aspects IMO. The disappointment comes because the game does so LITTLE with it. The story is one of the most phoned in things imaginable (most of it being "hey go scan this RNG settlement then kill a boss" on repeat), to the point that the game probably would have been better off not trying to have a story at all, and the difficulty is so low across the board that it drowns out how fun the movement and combat feels in a vacuum. If there's no challenge built in to the game, there's no fun in overcoming the bosses. Often, the worlds themselves are more dangerous than the bosses. It kills the game for me. I WANT to love the game so much, but after the first playthrough, I just can't. Mods don't really fundamentally change the things that need to change. FU is HUGE, and the game is still a total joke so it doesn't improve it for me. Terraria is the better game because it gives you a REASON to care about your power progression, since the bosses are actually challenging, and if they're not, there are difficulty settings to make them be. Artificially limiting gear/health/whatever via mods or just manually gimping yourself doesn't really fix this for Starbound.

Best way i can describe it is 2D No man's sky with a gameplay loop more similar to Subnautica You explore an infinite galaxy(the world is consistent between playtrough, so coordinates work as seeds) with procedurally generated creatures (mostly, some are pre-made), you progress the story by inspecting certain objects belonging to a specific race until you get access to a mission related to it Also collectibles and some nice side content like fossils, pokemon-style pets, a personal customizable mech, player made towns(where the habitants can provide quests), cities scattered around the universe that can also provide quests, the ability to progress in your scanning trough other methods rather than just exploring(like gathering info from habitants of your towns) If anything, it feels pretty good to just explore the vast universe and get lost in it

Like many others have noted; this is a really well made video and did a great job at capturing the pacing and general style of other well made challenge videos while still having unique humour in little editing details (something that always makes a video better in my opinon!) With that praise, I'll also mirror the most common criticism you're getting--absolutely not to harp on about something you clearly have already noted and are likely intending to rectify. I will say though, audio mixing is absolutely something that gets forgotten about, one part because when it's good you don't notice it at all, and it's also incredibly arbitrary and difficult to get right the first time around. You might very well be more learned in audio mixing than me--which, fair enough--but I did do a unit of Audio Production & Design in University, and it taught me quite a few things as well as my way around Adobe Audition (which is genuinely pretty awesome if you have access to it and it meshes with your workflow). Audio mixing for KZfaq is kinda... well, funky. A lot of mixing is really more based on industry wide standardisation where, and forgive me for potentially incorrect numbers, the usual targets are voice tracks being around -10db, where music might hit -5db when not competing with vocals (think a massive orchestral swell for an emotional moment in a movie, etc). Couldn't honestly tell you an exact number for music underlying vocals, but clarity is incredibly important in a video as information-dense as one like this. I suspect you may have potentially been trying to cover up some persistent background noise in your vocals/vocals quality with the volume of the music, which I might just be thinking because it's what I did once upon a time, but I'd reccomend checking out some videos on producing super clean vocal tracks (normalisation, removing background noise, compression, all that good stuff). It makes vocals so much easier to mix, gawd dayum. Generally, sound mixing can be really hard because, when listening to your own video, on your own system, with your own headphones, it'll almost always sound vastly different than on another whole system. So partly you mix audio by ear, and partly by standard, but ideally a viewer should be able to go from one video to the next on youtube, and not need to bump up or down the volume--having it all fit in the same general guidelines for volume levels--while still having a unique/interesting audio mixing style. That's clearly not always the case, but it's good to keep in mind. Other than than the music mixing, there was also the few instances where you had vocals tied to the gameplay happening on screen, and the narration vocals over top, and that was also in need of the same treatment in mixing. In the end, despite how much I managed to write on it, this was actually a rather minor 'misstep', and only stood out to me at all because of how well produced the rest of the video was made. With just a slight bit of tweaking of audio levels, your video would essentially be critiqueless from my positon. Maybe some script writing/presentation things? But that's just a matter of you doing it more, and it's not like it was horrendous. Quite the opposite, really. Take the massive paragraph as more of a discussion of the topic, rather than criticism. It's mostly half-rememberd stuff that I learnt ages ago now, and still dust off to use every now and then! Excited to see more from you in the future, if this video was anything to go by, Thanks for the entertainment!

i certainly am not more well learned in audio mixing, so thanks for the information! most of the music is set to -8db, which works alright for starbound's ost, but it made everything else a tad too loud. it's an oversight - not a bad cover-up for background noise.
@ImSarius
@ImSarius Жыл бұрын
@@CptFreefall Fair enough. Probably somethin' to do with the starbound music being pretty chill, so your voice is still really clear because it's not being eaten like with the super 'dense' music. I think lol. Either way, good to hear you're on top of it; it's a pretty simple fix once you're aware of it, and past that it gets into detailed artistry which you seem a fan of in your editing anyway. Why did chapter eleven make me almost tear up?? Really amazing editing. I haven't played Starbound in SO long but this video reminded me why it's still technically my most played game on Steam despite not touching it for years. I might have to change that soon. Cheers!

Ah, yeah, that's about how I thought the beginning would go. Unfortunate. But it's cool that you can accomplish so much along the way, and this is truly a triumph. Well done!

This is a really well made video, I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers. I love the comedic editing especially. If I had to say one thing, it's that the audio leveling could use some work, because sometimes the video is either too quiet or too loud, and I had to keep changing the volume. Otherwise, it seems really good! I subscribed.

Great video. The editing is fantastic, commentary is engaging, and it's nice to see some modern Starbound content. The music is a little loud in parts but I suppose you've improved that by now :)

I really wish starbound got more recognition. I always loved this game and felt it deserved a similar level of popularity as terraria and Minecraft. Glad to see people still playing it.
