The Rat wondering why the very ground beneath his feet shook looked out on the horizon only to see and army of shirtless men wielding axes. The men could be heard shouting loud enough to shake the heavens. What Rat heard next sent a chill down his spine in perfect unison all that could be heard for miles was. WOOD NEEDED.

Couldn't you build a 'tunnel' to his keep? Around the fireplace woodcutters and around yours. Then place woodcutters in between to make a tunnel and if they want to exit that they would need to go up on his keep and down the stairs on the wall? Not sure how doable it is but that is the 1st thing that I guessed you would have done.

Peasants keep the speed of their previous occupations when you retire them. Pretty much all peasants move the same speed except for mill workers and well workers. Basically, just build a water pot for 3 workers, retire them then put them to other jobs. They keep the firefighter movement speed.
