Күн бұрынI first tried this as a school boy, pedalling by bike with back pack out to Prestons, south west Sydney. Setting up on the grass by the perimeter fence hoping to light a little light globe, guess what, it didn't work! Fast forward 65 years and having a second try!

Made my first crystal set when I was 8 years old, this was before the days of small transistor radios, I had to run a huge length of wire for the aerial, a few years later, I made my first transistor radio and could listen to Radio Luxembourg and later the pirate station Radio Caroline.

The 1950s Raytheon booklet Things to do with your CK722 had an amplifier stage powered by the AM station that you're listening to. No need to be near the transmitter tower.

A mate and I messed about with using a crystal set to power a calculator, the later version used energy from the local BBC MW transmitter to power a VHF FM receiver.

We intend to go back and use a much higher antenna and hopefully power a portable radio, calculator or any other low current device.

@@Jonny10001 my friend did not live very close to the transmitter, fortunately modern calculators use very low power. With yor experiment you might be surprised just how little current it takes to light n LED dimly, far below 1mA.
