I put over 100k miles on a '94 Viper in Florida. It was my daily driver for 8 years. The skip shift is a non-issue when starting off in 2nd gear. The car has tons of torque, it's almost impossible to stall out. It will get over 20mpg on the hwy (GPS verified), IF you keep it under 65mph, and keep your foot out of it.

Being the owner of a 15 Mustang GT with engine upgrades (yeah yeah, nothing compared to a Viper) that snow v traction test was pretty spot on!

I might be old school but the way you describe the car is exactly what I like in a car. Back in the day cars were more basic and ABS and anti lock brakes were kind of new on the car industry. I grew up in the 90’s when cars still had that basic utilitarian feeling. When you say it has doors I know exactly what you mean. I had a 97 Eclipse GSX with AWD back in high school and even though I knew how to drive it sometimes it would fish tail and it would scare the hell out of me. But what was most fun about the car was when the engine was screaming at redline barely hanging on to the road. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna make it through the turn. It was unbelievable! It was such an adrenaline rush! That’s what made driving so fun!! SKILL!!!! Knowing your car and going with your gut and when you got it right man did it feel great! I love new cars they are much safer but I’ll always remember the sound of those burning tires in my eclipse lol!

I've owned my gen 2 Viper GTS for 12 years now, and driven it alot. When really pushing it you can see the fuel gauge fall. But have actually made it use 25.5 US MPG (9,2 l/100 km) on some occation. Engine RPM is really low in 6. gear. 3,07:1 rear end and something like 0,5:1 6. gear, which greatly contributes to low consumption.

Of course you can. I'd personally prefer like a 69 Boss Mustang or a 71 Roadrunner or a 68 Firebird, but it's been long enough since the 90's that the original Vipers are classic cool now. The rounded curves on that first generation Viper are sweet. I've seen a few recently and they are so nice looking. I also saw years back a Dodge Ram SRT10 with the Viper engine in person. It was cool as fuck. Only saw that once.

You can daily drive just about anything if you are willing to make the compromise. I daily drove a SuperStock drag car for 9 months. It wasnt very fun, and required a load of maintenance, but I did it.

One major issue with the Viper is that the exhaust is right under where you sit so it can be VERY loud and after some time it starts to melt the paint on the rocker panels because they poorly placed the exhaust too close to the paint. The best thing you can do is either... 1. Don't buy a Viper. 2. If you do buy a Viper, make sure you have enough money to swap out A LOT of the parts and rebuild the entire car to your liking.

My ‘69 Firebird, which I daily drive, has no airbags, no 3 point seatbelt (only a lap belt), no power brakes and drums on all 4, and just no safety features at all. It’s also a convertible, and I live in Colorado. When I’m behind the wheel, I feel more alive than ever before, partly because I know any moment can be my last. 👍

You need to put all-season or snow tires on the Viper before you can make assessments of how it'll do in light snow conditions

*6:11**Gas mileage for european people:* 5,6 miles to the gallon is something around 42L/100km which is bat shit crazy :D there is probably no similar car that would have such a consumption anywhere in the EU 18,7 miles to the gallon is something around 13L/100km which is definetly closer to similar EU cars but driving completely regular style in a city, not the highway, chasing low numbers for a test :)

If you want to know, skip shift was implemented to avoid the gas guzzler tax on car manufacturers so a certain percent had to have decent mileage or they'd get a big tax. The SUVs sold well and they didn't want to sacrifice them so they put on skip shift in the sports cars. (Specifically the t-56 trans) can be easily bypassed though with a little plug.
