Great video mate, very useful. Anything to be extra careful about when looking for one? Something to make sure has been changed around 30k-50k miles? I’m thinking about getting an R8 GT but want to avoid paying twice the price in repairs.

Thanks! I’m not quite as familiar with the wear items as I used to be, but depending on how the car was driven in the past, clutch is always a big one. Also, depending on the engine, sometimes the AC compressor can be a big pain. Same with oil pump if I am remembering correctly. Depending on how long the car has sat, the coolant tanks are well known to crack. Mag ride is known to fail so check the suspension to see if it’s been swapped to a standard coilover (way better) or if the mag ride is failing. Otherwise, it’s kinda the normal wear items to look out for. I’d highly suggest getting a pre-purchase inspection though just to be sure.

When the R8 came out i recall thinking it looked a bit ugly, & too similar to the TT. Surprised to say this has really aged well & grown on me.

I had a similar reaction when I first saw one at a car show. I guess the design was a little ahead of its time 😁

I drove a heavily moded 2009 rteonic, ride was harsh and loud asf. Drove a stock 15 v8 with dual clutch no drone , rides not bad, reminds me of a corvette. Its the seat bolsters that are a bit too tight for me.

That’s cool you got to drive both of those! I imagine they were totally different experiences. I have had a lot of people ask if I ever want to modify the engine in my R8 and I’m like… no. It’ll probably make it way too harsh like you said and I don’t want to risk making the reliability worse.

The ride was mainly harsh due to coil-over conversion. The car was slammed to the ground with tires rubbing the front fenders. In terms of engine performance it seems to be maxed out for what it is. I really don't see any performance mods besides small tune that adds laughable 7torque and maybe 15hp on 91 octane gas. I would rather spend that 2 grand on cleaning the intake manifold, new plugs and a basic tune-up. Car is plenty quick and fun just the way it is. @@MrKieriosity

@@MrKieriosity @MrKieriosity Man there are so many similarities it's scary. Gen 1 pre-face lift R8 V10, Armytrix Exhaust, originally Ibis white, and to top it all off the effspot sheep 🤣. Glad you are enjoying the car. It has been a dream for me as well. Still can't believe I own one, car is literally life changing.
