I've bought bulk several times and sometimes actually get back more than I paid in card value. The biggest problem is where to store everything once you're done sorting through it!

Looking through my lgs .10c pile i actually managed to find some legacy and modern playable, in cephallid illusionist, ground rift, some random playables, like baleful strix, and a few dark rituals from ice age era.

Like you I've purchased Bulk collections in the past. I find them feast and famine for the most part. Some bulk collections were from people that knew the current market of cards, but there were some that didn't know they were the feast. But more famine then feast. But I love Bulk and will continue to purchase

I love buying bulk as well! I'd best find ever was a MP White Knight from Alpha which was worth about $400 at the time. The more I watch certain Commons and Uncommons spike, more I just want to keep all bulk I get and wait for cards to spike to trade him for store credit. You just never know what will go up in price.

I'm starting my collecting journey in MTG and would like to complete sets so from my standpoint I would invest in these bulk common buys. Also with pauper commander officiated by WOTC, some of these lesser known/lesser played commons may end up popping in value! I'm happy WOTC decided to make pauper commander an official play format because it will add value to these otherwise worthless cards.

Back in the day, you could sometimes pick up old MTG collections at yard sales when people didn't know what they were selling. I actually remember that my uncle had a collection of cards in the 90s from his college days. I'm almost certain they were MTG cards, but when I asked him about them, he told me that they went in the bin after he got married along with all of his toys and games that he'd collected.....yikes!

One time I found a giant box of bulk cards at a yard sale for free. I thought it would be epic, so I got it, and then a friend and I sorted through them and we found 64 gleaming barriers, and other very common cards in absolutely insane numbers. No basic lands, I don’t think it even had tokens there either.

I got 8000 bulk cards which included 400 foils and rares and tons of uncommons mixed in. l Been a blast playin sealed and drafting with chaos/mystery repacks. Just made boosters in plastic ziplock bags with 11 common, 3 uncommons and 1 rare. It’s awesome. Same price as a new release booster box, but 10 x as many cards. Love the variety of a good bulk purchase

To me… …bulk cards I don’t own are of value to me. Cards like Arachnoform have little $ value but is playable (reach, +2/+2 and can be any creature type). While I’d rather have a Power 9 card - I wouldn’t be able to play it (I’d have to frame it or stick it in a vault). The other fun part, sifting through them! Keep 5 of each for collection!

I love buying and sorting through bulk… I’ve found some great stuff too! Last time found two NM German foreign black border revised Atogs, snuff out, Aphetto alchemist, and some other really fun goodies. Doubled my money on that one.

I go by the philosophy that I collect the main set, Alt arts or frames are more for decks or for trade.

Could be wrong, but wasn’t that the “good” art of goblin chirugen I saw about halfway thru? I dunno, now k don’t remember which is the “good one. Shrug.

Personally I just started up my tcg store and I bought a 13k bulk lot. You will usually find hidden gems as long as you’re not buying from someone doing the same thing as you. After I sort and do them in rarity I post 5 of each card, unless the card is actually worth something, to my store and then the rest I make bulk packs out of to sell.

It's fun to sift and treasure hunt. But better to find a treasure hunt than a sift.

I love going through bulk

I recently checked my old collection with a freind. I played more than 20 years ago, and started to re-entering the hobby few years ago. I never assumed anything valuable in my collection, but there were a few 5 to 20 dollar cards in my lot, to my surprise... ...and in one of the last piles of cards in my collection there was a card hiding, I had in a pull, but never played, due to a game mechanic, that wasn't really exploited back in time: discarding my hand to the graveyard... So, I learned that I had a 200-300 dollar card hiding in my lot: "Lion's Eye Diamond" in a decent not played, but not completely mind condition.

I first sort them out by Set, Color, Rarity and then grade them online. Personally i think that a card can be a single-seller starting from 0,25 Euro....

I have not but this is about what I'd expect if I did.

What if you just want to play on the kitchen table and you're not so much trying to be competitive or make money, but you just want to start a collection from scratch, and you want old cards?

Not sure about the current pure value, but I'd set aside all those Snakeskin Veil, Blacksmith's Skill, Ornithopter of Paradise, Crashing Drawbridge, and Impulsive Pilferer.

I don't agree with the sentiment that the game is not growing. The popularity of the game has exploded over the last year or so, and I think the lack of collections on the market is a testament to that... people are holding on to their collections, and the people who are selling know the value of the cards.

People love slivers. Could easily make a collection of play sets of slivers & sell/trade the lot. Saving someone the hassle of trying to find them all themselves

I'm someone that builds full sets and has play sets of the stuff and I stopped doing it. I started getting one of the one that I liked. so if I like the myr convert in this step and complete or like something in showcase frame or full art foil I will only get one or a play set. I won't go for every single type of that one card. WOTC ruined that.

I did that just yesterday and not worth it at all i bought a 4k bulk at cardmarket and i just take about 250 different cards out of it all commons worth nothing.

What is the thought process when coming up with video thumbnails? Do you look through thumbnails of big channels and try to emulate? Who takes the photo? Do you both laugh at how ridiculous the whole thing is?

I agree it feels like the MTG player base is shrinking, perhaps this is due to the unnatural growth MTG enjoyed during the pandemic. Now society is returning to work / more normal life, combined with the bad stewardship of WotC killing the value of all non RL cards with reprints, the player base appears to be shrinking. Makes me believe we are not too far off (2-3 years) from wotc abolishing the RL.

Not worth it in the long run. Your time is money too and sorting through all of the garbage for hours means you need to hit some haymakers if you value your own time. At least for us non youtubing magic players. Rather do spec buys when new sets hit and cash in on scared players when really big cards are reprinted and people think they losing money. That's where the value is and it barely costs any time. Buy, relist, sell, send = money! Depending on your budget you can do this with cards varying from 0,25 upto as high you can gamble with. For example when midnight hunt released I bought 3 playsets brutal cathar, 3 sets stormthingies and 3 also huntmasters for 0,35 per card and playsets adeline for 1 euro per card, sadly also bought 3 playsets sungolds for 0,25 each but cards like these made me tons of profits. Buying fables for 5 a piece as many as I could find, same when wedding announcement was like 0,50-1,- after that it's just hold and wait. Same when brother's war released, bought playsets of brotherhood's end for 3 a card, myrels for 7, awaken for 7 and loran started out at a dollar. And now for the past 3 weeks I been pretty much buying any affordable fastland that is exc+ that I could get my hands on and I am fairly sure that post rotation that gonna be a nice pay day too, especially as in EU the prices for the more popular allied color fastlands is already rising and even razorverge thicket is more popular then ever due to pioneer getting them for the 1st time too and them being played in selesnya angels, humand and I think the new lightpaws deck as well. Other then the brother's war investments most of the cards ranged from 0,50-4 euro a piece and for me it's not really about the money but making my own collection affordable. When I buy 4 Myrel for 28, sell 3 of them for 37,50 4 months later I end up with 1 totally free Myrel for my own collection and that's how I usually go about it. But I don't do mystery packs, bulk buys or anything where I can not clearly see what I buy. That's like throwing away your money and that imho is plain silly.

keep the lands. the guy who sold it as "bulk" has no idea that those dual lands; even though they are common; are still of greater value than everything else in there. can't play a good deck without good lands.

Not worth it IMHO. Are you ever actually going to use any of these cards (be honest)...or will they just end up sitting in a box? For you personally though...I think it's worth it because if nothing else you get to make a youtube video out of it which is awesome. For most people I don't honestly think this bulk box was worth it though. ==edit== also, I know I'm a grump haha...but I do enjoy your videos and am glad you make these videos. I'm glad you're able to do these kinds of blind buys here on youtube because even if you lose money on them, at least they're feeding into your youtube hobby and they're videos many other people enjoy watching.
