Luxembourg (Belgium) actually used to be Luxembourg (Luxembourg) for a long time, but after the partitions of Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Belgium (Belgium) was awarded Luxembourg (Luxembourg) making it Luxembourg (Belgium) as opposed to Luxembourg (Luxembourg) which the Eastern half remains as. I think the reason why there's a region in Belgium named Luxembourg next to Luxembourg is cause the region actually used to be apart of Luxembourg but the Belgian waffle eaters decided to munch like half of Luxembourg and decided "I cant be bothered to think of names" and hence its name

There is actually a little piece of land between Egypt and Sudan that isn't claimed by any country, which let to people going there and claiming it to be a new "country" (that's where the name "North Sudan" came from)

It's bit complicated, but the British drew a strait line first as the border between Egypt and Sudan, but in 1902 the line was moved so it would line up etnically. When Egypt and Sudan gained independence, they had to decide if they wanted the pre-1902 strait line or the post-1902 border. But, Egypt claimes the pre-1902 border and Sudan claimes the post-1902 border, because that piece of land was much more valuable than the other piece of land: it had a coastline and a okay population. Later it was said there might be oil of the coast of that piece, while the other piece of land was just a bit of desert with nothing in it. This is the piece of land that has by various people been claimed as their own, including someone claiming it as North Sudan. So yeah, basicly neither Egypt or Sudan claimes that piece of land... 6:02, we didn't change cause it's technically a major part of the duchy of Luxembourg and the other part are the nation (still a duchy, the reson why we call the leaders of Luxembourg, a Duke and not really a king), take by France and Germany. Edit: Luxembourg was entirely attached during Belgium revolution but asked Belgium to give some land to be considered independent (give land to Dutch, liberate Luxembourg and give some to Germany)

@@_blank-_ An extremely short end of the stick. They were put into a personal union with the crown of The Kingdom of The Netherlands as well. Luckily for them, only a male king could persist this union, and the Netherlands quickly had a female king (it’s officially still called a king so that’s why I don’t say queen) so they lost the personal union. From there Luxembourg actually went pretty okay.

So, in the case of the U.S. recognizing North Korea, it's because countries can recognize both South and North. In the case of China and West Taiwan, nations have to choose one or the other (or neither in the case of Bhutan... and maybe some others I'm not aware of).

I hate that a side effect of watching these videos is that now I can't look at my own state flag without being disgusted and disappointed. But these videos did teach me that I have a state flag in the first place, which I was pretty much oblivious to for the first 26 years of my life, so I guess that evens things out? @@nish3671 china had putva system of social credit (kinda like in black mirror) to judge if your a good citizen If yesbyou can be more trusted, have better jobs, hotels etc and if not you can litteraly treated as shit or kicked from the society

@@nish3671 It’s a Chinese Credit System that anyone can access. Being a bad person takes away some social credit, being on the internet for too long will drop some of it, saying something against the supreme leader with heavily lower it, saying Taiwan is a country will heavily lower it, saying China isn’t the best with heavily lower it, etc. Basically rating people as humans. (I’m also pretty sure you’re executed if your a Chinese citizen and it gets too low)

When it comes to companies recognizing Afghanistan's new government and new flag comes down to if the United Nations or their home country recognizes it. If the United Nations and/or the United States recognized the new Afghanistan, then I would believe Google and Apple would do the same.
