I went thru the fundamentals class with Chad from Changing lanes, it was great to get to know him and Tara. I thought the course and Tood and his crew were the best. Tood kept if informative and he Is hilarious and always kept us engaged . I would highly recommend this school to any owner or someone looking to get into this field.

Given the investment in the RV an inspection is a must. I was shocked at how much information was provided to me from my inspector. It is important for people to know that an inspection does not prevent future maintenance problems or breaks to your RV. Those will still happen because it is an RV.

Congrats on the certification!!!! 🎉 As others have mentioned, a certified inspection is a must before buying any new or used RV. We had our new 5th wheel inspected before our purchase last year. It was great information to have before we paid for the RV, and in fact shared the report with the dealer so they could resolve the few minor issues before the purchase. I was also doing my inspection of the RV the same day the inspector did. I was blown away with the number of items he checked. For anyone thinking they can do their own inspection, they are only fooling themselves. Unless of course you have the certification.😊 Our inspector spent 9+ hours doing the inspection, and the report provided was very detailed with tons of pictures. An important item you mentioned is the inspection is only good for the point in time of the inspection. But at least for that one time….you know it was good.

Hey Phil, congrats on the certification! I just completed all advanced certified RV tech courses and passed my test last weekend. Going through solar this next week and then I'm off to fix RVs. Love the classes and all the folks at NRVTA. You did the Registered Tech Certification, right? Not the Certified Tech? Its kind of confusing for folks, the Registered is what most inspectors take vs the 4 weeks of advanced classes. Just curious. See you on the road I hope.

I might do the fundamentals course, but have had my hands on this type of work since a pre-teen working with my father to finish out a 25 ft. tow behind. I am a medically retired fleet Master Mechanic, and trying now to scale a garage full of tools down to what I can carry storage space and weight, in the back of my towed, which has the suspension and tires to handle a load. Familiar with Propane/Butane, worked in the production plants in NM and West TX that supply most of the country, and ran most of my vehicles on it, could buy in Mexico for 19 cents a gallon when gas was $1.45, or filled up free around the oil patch, in the '70's and '80's. Also my sniffer for auto refrigerant also detects propane, another inert gas.

Phil, would you mind sharing the cost of this school and the time to complete. Since we are in our 9th year of full time living, everyone needs to be able to repair the smaller items that come up day to day. There are a lot with a home moving down the road. If you can't, then you better have deep pockets and plenty of time to watch your RV sit in a repair shop. Thankfully, I am able to fix many items and have saved thousands of dollars in doing so. The only way to learn is to dive in! Don't be afraid!

I saw the shot of the guy pulling the oil samples. I just pulled my samples for this year. By the way I use to be the guy running the samples at the lab. Tip of the day when pulling a oil sample. Use the dipstick to measure the sample hose. You want it in the oil (about the middle) but never hit the bottom of the pan. You could get a false reading. Ok never dump/change your oil before you get your sample results back. If you get some weird results Really hi iron or really hi al. You will want to do a "check" sample to verify the results. Or the outher option is to do a teardown to check. Ok that's 2 things but I like you and it's my Birthday. 😁😁😁 By the way congratulations on passing the class.

Im trying to figure out how I can get down there and take the fundamentals course before then! Just completed the fundamental class A week or so ago. It had its good and not so good stuff but that is just my perspective. I wished they did more of the hands on for some additional moving parts like slides, etc. All in all, I would recommend this for first timers and anyone that wants to be a bit more knowledgeable in their coach/trailer (be it a TT or a 5th wheel). I don't know if the RV software has this ability, but including 360 video in your report is very helpful for the long distance shopper.

Really torn between the schools . On one hand, there is cost. RVIA offers one week level one (PDI) online and level two (Technician) online (self paced time limit of one year). I have the level one books and not impressed by the organization of the material. Cost is much less, however… Going to retire in 9 months and want the best training possible. Although RVIA is supported by the manufacturers, both rv and equipment, and dealers, NRVTA “seems to me” to be leaps and bounds above them in training and personnel. Whichever way I go with training, it’s good to know you guys feel the school is intense and really sets a person up for success in this business. Another great vlog. Thanks!!!

Please let me know what path you take? I too want to do this but : One the cost and Two quality. I just read up a few that the ONLINE SUCKS and was poorly made. NOT COOL at all.

Of course you passed! Of course you can inspect while traveling full time. Of course it's worth your time. However, that technician capability might well be more needed. Thanks for sharing.

I am a certified inspector and registered technician. I took the course last September. When I got out and went back to Michigan I was super busy right out of the gate. I came to Arizona for the winter thinking I could continue with work and I haven’t had many calls. So, area does matter. I still believe it is great for the road and over time I will continue to grow and perfect my business.

@@RVingwithG It’s not the online, but rather the home study that comes with booklets & a USB drive with videos.. It is very informative and easy learning for someone that may not be familiar with RV systems.. I am pretty savvy with the systems, as we own a ‘42 Class A Tiffin Allegro Bus.. Still, I would recommend the training..
