One would think that daily shaving would be the best solution for that, since if the hair never has a chance to be stubble it shouldn't have an opportunity to go back into the skin. Apparently one would be mistaken about that assumption. It does make a certain amount of sense that if you can grow the hair to the point that it won't curl back into the skin that you're safe from that happening, so I'm glad they allow guys with that issue to just grow the beard out so they don't have a constant battle with skin problems.

Ingrown hair is the worst, I like to be clean-shaven and I'm lucky that I rarely get rashes, the routine that worked for me is to humid the skin first and then use shaving cream which is a bit more expensive but more effective to prevent inflammations and remember always use cold water and do gentle touches when washing up.

I finally started growing some facial hair at 19. My husband hated it because it was scraggly and childish. I shaved cause marriage is love and he was a bit right. That’s how I found out that shaving or trimming too close to the skin causes severe cystic acne to break out everywhere. Wasn’t an allergy to the shaving cream, aftershave, or incorrect usage of the razor. My face is just like this. In Norway (btw the Norwegian flag is in the background at the start of this vid) you can request the right to have a beard. As I’ve understood it you need to have a reason and you have to describe exactly how the beard you want is going to look (if it’d longer than that you have to cut it back down). A guy in the same troop of a friend of mine requested to grow out a beard so people could distinguish him and his identical twin brother which is a pretty good reason if you ask me.

This is a very common problem I have seen during my time in the military. It is very typical with soldiers and sailors who are African American, or just have very curly hair. Black men in particular are prone to this because their hair is tends to be very curly. It can be incredibly painful and can cause keloid scarring, infections, cysts and tracts under the skin. If you have this and DO shave, one of the best things to do is to exfoliate and make sure you're using a sharp, clean razor. Exfoliating is key. - Esthetician here....

Also the condition this sergent is talking about is not correct. It’s pseudofolliculitus (barbae) He just pronounced it wrong. It affects the African American community more so than any other race, and it is widely accepted and easy to get no shave chits from your corpsman if you know you have this condition. Don’t be afraid to join if you have this condition. You will likely not have to shave and suffer the pain that comes with razor bumps if you just talk to one of us corpsmen.

That's true, you're not supposed to edge it up, but I have done it plenty of times. I remember this MSG stopped me in the DFAC downrange in 2014 and asked why my beard was edged up. I then pointed to my CAB badge from actions way back in 2003 in Iraq way before the award was created and told him I earned the right to do so. I also told him that if he likes, he can come to my table and speak with the 2 star General and Theater CSM and ask them why. Of course, he didn't do so.........
