Detailed review and test of the 2024 Ford F-150 focussing on suburban driving, including V6 engine, handling, ride and interior.
The rollout of the Ford F-150 in Australia has been a rocky one due to a persisting stop sale while a steering defect is rectified.
But we nabbed a test unit to see what the F-150 Lariat LWB is like and whether it is worth considering when this American pick-up truck goes back on sale in Australia.
Rivals to the F-150 include the RAM 1500, Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra, plus smaller utes like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max.

I have driven trucks for a lot of my life and i like other truck drivers would not have any trouble driving these vehicles. It is because most people are used to driving small to medium vehicles that most people consider them huge. Take one for a drive and you will be pleasently surprised. Maybe not in and underground car park which are far too tight for the current crop of vehicles.

My F450 crew cab fits in my garage. Also, the LWB F150 would be a short bed in the larger pickups. The 5.5 foot bed is not available in larger pickups and the 8' crew cab configuration is not available in half tons like the F150.

The F150 is the entry level of full size pickups. We have a class above the full size called large pickup truck (8,500 to 14,000 lb GVM/GVWR). In Ford terms that would be F250 to F450 pickups. They aren't difficult to deal with anywhere but the most dense urban areas. I have driven a Ram 2500 through Manhattan many times and the only issue is that you need to reserve a parking space ahead of time.

At that GVWR it would be a class 3 truck (Dodge offered several variants with different GVM/GVWR in 1977). The current Ford equivalent is the F350. The F150 is a class 2A.

Like you Tom,I'm really surprised the F150 is that good. But you said it's good value at $140k on road compared to a smaller duel cab ute at $80k on road. That's $60k better value? It would have to be nearly twice as good to achieve that, so unless there's a reason for needing a bigger truck, I can't see the value equation works.
@chasingcars
@chasingcars 4 ай бұрын
I meant it in a relative way - this truck at $140K is better value than a regular 4x4 dual-cab ute at $80K (which I see as very overpriced for the simple, agricultural vehicles they are). You can certainly still think $140K is a lot of money for the Ford, and I do.

These things (as does the RAM and the Tundra, and to a lesser extent the midsize utes) represent a disproportionate risk to pedestrians and drivers of other cars because of their weight, bonnet height, and consequent blind spot. Think very long and hard about that before you consider buying one.

Nice truck with some great features, but the deal breaker for me, is no diesel engine. It just defies any logic for a large truck that specific’s purpose is for heavy towing. An equivalent size twin turbo diesel engine would’ve more torque down low where needed & more importantly, far superior fuel economy. The 10 speed auto would be the perfect match for a diesel engine. Hate to see what the fuel economy is on that petrol engine when towing.
@word1901
@word1901 4 ай бұрын
obviously you have no idea what you are talking about the 3.5 ecoboost puts out 450nm at 1500rpm and 575nm at 2000rpm ford had a 3L turbo diesel 10speed auto the exact same powertrain used in the ranger now in the F150 from 2018 to 2020 it was a sales disaster why have a stinking unrefined oil burner when the ecoboost destroyed it in every way people caught onto that pretty quick in the states and if you can afford any new car sold today you can pay for the fuel it requires i hate how people act like diesels don't burn a shit load more fuel towing

The issue is that the F150 is too small to make it into the more diesel friendly regulations that the EPA imposes on vehicles over 8,500 lb GVWR/GVM. The F250 and up all offer diesels, but don't expect twin turbo. Almost all diesel sales in the US and Canada are vehicles above 8,500 lb GVWR/GVM. The standard output F250 diesel makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb ft/1,425 nm of torque and the High Output makes 500 hp and 1,200 lb ft/1,630 nm. Both are mated to a 10 speed auto.

who can afford this thing? a 40K car is roughly $1000/month financed. what is 150K per month? I wish these 'car review' channels would do some "this is a rough monthly finance cost". i have this f150 around 4000/month which is roughly a ^70k salary take home pay. so you'd need to be on 200K plus to realistically even think abou it - am i missing something?
