Please keep Boomer as a regular guest on your podcast. His modeling manner and gift for instruction keeps many fans coming back for more of his exemplary railroad and scenic modeling.

IMHO Boomer is quite possibly the preeminent voice in the hobby right now, at least in terms of modeling. How he verbalizes his thought process, the process he goes through to achieve his planning goals, and the steps he takes to reach them are delivered in an easy to understand manner. He teaches without teaching, and as a teacher myself can say is a real talent and one I continue to try to master myself. His personality comes through in his voice, no monotone voice or the ever annoying voice lift that makes it sound like a question at the end every sentence. He is just a pleasure. Ive been planning to get back in the hobby myself but finances are limiting me from even getting the wood for the benchwork. However, in the program last night he lifted up his display board with the single piece of modeled track and said, do this…it’s great practice…. has me sketching some ideas to to do just that. Really enjoyed the broadcast last night. You guys do a great job. Keep it up.

What’s a cheap hobby? I know guys that have spent $1000 on a fishing rod. But for me model railroading is therapeutic.

I've spent huge amounts on brand new high quality motive power and stock. But I've spent infinitely more time (and gained alot of enjoyment) scratchbuilding structures with just card, plasticard, and carving clay. The outlay for literally hundreds or thousands of hours of research, scratchbuilding, and painting has been minimal relative to the therapeutic value of enjoying such a chill hobby. Boomer is a fantastic repository for technique and inspiration. Also check out Giles Favell, a superb UK modeller/miniature engineer. His YT channel is gilesengineer (no connection, his scratchbuilds are just technically superb)

Just a fun 3 hours to listen to and watch while making new color car tags for my car routing operation. Live from Boomer's layout room was the way to go. Did I miss his explanation of how he routes his cars; switch lists or car cards and way bills? The short line portion is a keeper. Boomer is a hero.

In the UK small 'shelf' or 'cameo' layouts are very popular, not least because in general our housing stock features substantially smaller rooms in an overall much smaller real estate footprint than in North America.

That forklift looks real. rusted forks and the hydraulics in the front. The layout is really well done. the details make it real.

Back into the hobby and finding out about boomer… a lot of his concepts i thought i came up being a bit different. The hight, the modeling a tiny 2 foot layout, modeling what you see locally, less is more so u can detail more, outrunning your layout before its even built, the research. Lets me know ive been doing this hobby the correct way

I remember when the "good enough" philosophy first hit model railroading -- people ate it up because it was spouted by an important figure in the hobby. Those were dark days for the hobby. I don't know how the words "good enough" were originally intended, but most people took them as a license to let their layouts look like crap, so long as they were operable. To my mind, that philosophy was antithetical to everything that model railroading was about. I'm glad to see the day when Boomer and others are bringing model railroading back as an art form. The layout is so much more than just a gaming table--it's a work of art. If you find yourself saying something on your layout is "good enough," beware of what you mean by it.

We know who you mean. And the V&O got us out of the days of "modeling" broken-down short lines with cutesy names and decrepit equipment and, at the other end of the spectrum, four-track mainlines racing around a large table. The V&O also looked very realistic and looked just as good as it operated. Keep in mind that we are "model RAILROADING".

@@B-and-O-Operator-Fairmont Don't get me wrong: I love most of what McClelland did for the hobby. I saw his layout in person when I was in high school, and it meant a lot to me. I just don't think he thought too hard about saying "good enough."

Boomer a mi modo de ver este hobby, es, entre los mejores, el mejor de todos, en mis más cincuenta años de Ferromodelistas, he visto buenos modelista, excelentes modelista y maestros de maestros; pocos como el amigo Boomer, muy pocos y de entre esos pocos, el amigo Boomer, es el mejor de todos, hacer sus propios modelos como es el caso del alce o el oso con su pescado en el hocico, no es poco, eso habla muy bien de él y su verdadera pasión por este hermoso hobby, y como yo en Chile digo, en un "ferroloco" de tomo y lomo, desde Santiago de Chile, un fuerte abrazo a través de la distancia, y por cierto, lamento la perdida de su hermano, mis respetos, a través de la eternidad para su hermano. Boomer I started a year ago and he is so precise and a great teacher ... I've seen others but he is one of the best out there now. The older ctrues shoultz and other are great in there time but what he does with styrene I wish I was that good. But I will attempt it after I change my layout, thanks , joe

here I am, 5 months after this posted, just had to put the 4x8 n scale out. Making a 2x4 instead. Then likely another one. Then another. I started way too big, and with a 6 and almost three year old…. I need somthing smaller!!!!

Ok... The forklift and the bus? Who made those? That fork truck reminds me of an old job... Funny thing about capacity ratings..😂😂 Boomer, I appreciate you doing these shows along with everyone else. It keeps me grounded. Mistakes happen, live and learn...don't be afraid of failure along the way!! Now about those vehicles...😁🍻
