The spleen is located in the upper left abdominal cavity, just beneath the diaphragm, and next to the stomach. It is similar to a lymph node in shape and structure but it is much larger.
An easy way to remember the anatomy of the spleen is the 1×3×5×7×9×11 rule. The spleen is 1" by 3" by 5", weighs approximately 7 oz, and lies between the 9th and 11th ribs on the left-hand side.
Your spleen is considered part of the lymphatic system.
the spleen consists of two types of tissue called white pulp and red pulp. The white pulp is lymphatic tissue consisting mainly of lymphocytes around arteries. The red pulp consists of sinuses filled with blood and lymphatic cells,
As blood is filtered through the spleen old and damaged red blood cells are removed from the blood. In addition, the spleen produces lymphocytes in response to invading pathogens found in the blood. The spleen is like a large lymph node that filters blood instead of lymph looking for invaders like harmful bacteria. White blood cells stored in the spleen help remove and eliminate these invaders. It is particularly helpful when fighting meningitis and pneumonia
The spleen also stores blood. The sinuses in the red pulp of the spleen are filled with blood and can be used in case of an emergency.
You can live without your spleen. your immune system won’t shut down without a spleen, but it won’t operate as efficiently.

My husband got spleen removed after it got ruptured . Before that It was being inflamed for a year and was a regular blood transfusion pt in 2011. Now 11 years living regular healthy life. He does yoga, eats good meals and works from home since CoVid started. Doing well. He is mostly careful in-terms of getting exposed. But he does all groceries and takes kids to activities. No problem so far. I am very thankful for it. He only gets yearly flue shots, and keeps his immunization up to date. He seeks for help at the first sign of any sickness

Tell your doc. They didn't replace the fatty membrane after my splenectomy, and it resulted in my gallbladder fusing with my inferior vena-cava. I nearly died in 2017, had to be transported to Erlanger to see a specialist surgeon. Failing to share this information with your doctor is foolish. If your car won't start, you tell a mechanic. If your computer is acting weird, you tell your IT guy. They're the ones that know if it's a red flag or something simple that you can just handle on your own, you are not the expert. Always be honest with your doctor. Failing to do so makes your life harder, and their jobs harder. It shouldn't take some guy on the internet to tell you this either, and you should really evaluate your judgment if this is how you live your life. Best of luck to you.

Yeah so i got pounded by a car and lost my spleen during a car accident at 13 too so. The only noticible thing is that you will have less stamina and alcohol is much easier to make you drunk but if you stay clean and work out you can live up to 100 years. No difference between normal or no spleen as long you watch yourself

I've been without a spleen for 20 years. I'm 24 now and I don't take medicine daily or anything. I might've when I was younger for like a week or something, but as far as I know I haven't. you really just gotta make sure you're careful being around sick people. that being said I'm hardly ever sick and I don't really pay attention or care to all the time. I did have the flu every year on my birthday for about 3 or 4 years straight. I don't get shots either so I mean all things considered, I'm doing pretty good.
