My scalp tends to be dry, and I had to stop myself from oiling it after shampoo day. Now I will spray my scalp with warm rose water or give it a quick steam with my qredew steamer.

There is such conflicting advice around oils but just as you got to the end there I was able to relate. I’ve found that Yannie’s advice on this works really well for my daughter who has sisterlocks. I moisturise her scalp with rosewater and then seal in with a light oil - vitamin e or sweet almond - I do this probably once every week. I make sure I massage it into her scalp and run my fingers through her locs. Otherwise we do quite well with her rosewater and vitamin e mix in the spray bottle that we use to liven up her locs. My scalp is totally different and doesn’t need much at all as I wash frequently have scalp psoriasis so apart from aloe juice it prefers to be left alone!

Video was very informative, except for water what kind of natural moisturiser can you recommend please? I tend to make my own aloe vera spray which I think helps with moisture retention & use natural oils on my locs I don’t apply oil to scalp just the shaft of my hair. But I’m only 7 months in & still learning please keep tips coming, they help a lot. Many thanks 😊🇬🇧

I personally notice as a loose natural that oil seems to just sit on my hair, vs actually being absorbed. Oil does absorb on my skin though. I notice it really absorbs when my skin is wet (directly out the shower).

Oil on my scalp since becoming natural has been a big NO NO... it does like anything on it & wants to be left alone. I discovered this because my scalp would actually hurt with any oil I used..once I stopped beautiful. So thankful I discovered it was the oil...my life has been so much better.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge! Great info! I do want to mention that I do have seborrheic dermatitis and “oiling” my scalp has been a godsend. I use 100% jojoba oil daily (which is actually a “liquid” wax). I highly recommend this because I do feel like those with the same issues I was experiencing should think about this. After going to the dermatologist, they prescribed to me a shampoo and a steroid oil. I did not want to keep using this because of it’s chemical components. I started treating myself within with omega 3s/probiotics, my diet, drinking water, and applying jojoba oil. This has changed my life tremendously. What are your thoughts on this? Moisturizes make my scalp react worse.

I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis as well and I no longer use oil on my scalp, it was causing my scalp to flake up really bad. How are you liking jojoba oil to treat your dermatitis?
@xlittlenuggs

Evelyn Elizabeth for me, it works wonders! I can not use any other “oil” combination on my scalp (absolutely nothing with fragrance). I put oil in quotation marks because from what I’ve researched jojoba is not actually oil, most closely mimics our natural bodily oils. It has antibacterial, humectant, and antioxidant properties, as well. I buy the 16oz Now Solutions and put a squirt nozzle on it and apply it daily. I was opposed to the medicated products the dermatologist suggested and I had to find a system that works for ME. I also can NOT forget to take my daily probiotics and omega 3s. I notice a difference if I change any of these. Working my issue out from within has been my motto. I hope you found this helpful!

I too have seborrheic dermatitis and *absolutely no oil at all* touches my scalp. It just inflammed my scalp and set it on fire. I spent months testing oil (jojoba, almond, avocado, etc) one by one. No can do. Rose water? No can do. Aloe vera? No can do. Rosemary? No can do. You name it, I've tried it. I shampoo and take a bit of time massaging my scalp every day (spritz with a bit of distilled water to help me move my natural scalp sebum around and that is all I need. Of course every one of us is different.

Y'all these are very good and helpful conversations that's being had right here. I suffer with major scalp issues and I'm trying to do my research. My scalp is always dry and itchy. I did find out that oils on the scalp is a major No No for me. It causes a serve itching reaction and huge scales to form around my front hairline. I can say that my scalp is less problematic without oil. I haven't experienced any scaling in a while. Now I need to keep these 2nd set of locs moisturized without buildup. This is especially difficult, given my sensitive and problematic scalp, so I have to be mindful of what even touches my hair. I'm learning from reading comments from you women.

Hi 👋🏾 so wait I’m doing it wrong? So would it be better if I put my carrier oil, essential oil in a a bottle of warm water? Distilled water of course 😌 and moisturize daily with that ? I have low porosity hair so I have to spray with warm water to get the cuticles open so it can receive the moisture. Help 😆 I need a better regime because I’m only 1 month loc’d and I moisture everyday but I oil my scalp every Monday Wednesday and Friday

Is it fine to oil after showering only? Or maybe once a week? Please help I get really bad flakes sometimes and I don’t think it’s dandruff. And I’ve noticed it’s almost as if it feeds off the oil

Say it louder for the ppl in the back!!!! Don’t know why ppl saturate their scalp with oils. Some do it on a daily basis. I haven’t used any oils with this loc Journey. My hair feels healthier and is growing like crazy.

Wow, you look great. Your Locs are thriving! This is gonna be a challenge for me because my scalp is so itchy and oil soothes the itch. I do however water rinse once a week and shampoo twice a week. Wow, okay so what about adding the oil to my water bottle for the scalp?
@thedigitalloctician
@thedigitalloctician 4 жыл бұрын
If it works for you, do that! This is generally speaking. You also cleanse a lot so you may need the additional support of your oil. I am not a fan of “mixing” oil and water.

There are a lot of oil blends marketed for hair growth which instruct to apply on scalp. What would you suggest for people who are wanting to grow their hair maybe due to hair loss, or thinning or even just trying to grow their hair 'quicker' if thats even possible.

I would say a topical solution isn’t going to do anything if you’re not eating well, working out and resting. Focus inward before adding a bunch of stuff to your scalp.

Got me thinking now 🤔. What is your thoughts on coconut oil? That's what I use and it does make my hair shiny but not the scalp. I use to have dry scalp very bad when I wasn't natural but now I can wash and go without putting any oil. I just put oil for the sake of my hair.

@@thedigitalloctician Experiment #2 2 sample dreads (like in your last hair chalk vs wax video)+ Microscope+ 1 Spray bottle with water + Oil (I nominate vitamin e oil) Week 1 spray one dread with only water. Spray 2nd dread with water + oil Repeat for a few weeks (I nominate 4 weeks) After week 4 wash both dread samples. Lastly, show conclusion of results in the microscope to test your hypothesis that oil overtime causes buildup. You may not realize it yet but you have now officially become our hair chemist 🤣💞❣️🤪

It's on the scalp not the hair strands. Yes, everyone is different. For me, my scalp does not like any kind of oil on it directly & becomes irritated...it just wants to breathe & produce its own oil.
