In this video we're taking a look at the MSC-242 by Mitac Industrial Corporation. It is an industrial single board computer, that packs a complete 486 computer on a single 16-bit ISA card. How do we use this, and can we play games on this? ►

ISA system on boards are the most fun to use in an Amiga since it provides a separate ISA bus -- you can then use an ISA bridge to access them from the Amiga (NOT the system-on-board bridgeboards, but the rare bridge cards that exist just to communicate with the ISA bus)

@@gurthuk Yeah all big-box Amigas (2000/3000/4000 series) have a passive ISA bus in them, and various cards were released that were system-on-cards, but also a couple of rare cards were made that let you interface with the ISA bus without a system on it.

Truly fascinating piece of retro hardware! Would be cool to build a tiny little actual case for this setup! I was expecting wood, btw, not Lego! 😂

How cool is that with the little mini lego case! :D Amazing that after all these years and probably been constantly turned on that board still works.

i remember "Dooming" on this card Pre 9/11. lol of course we had a backplane, and a ati ISA card. used a AWE32 card on it. it was challenging and fun without internet to grab all the stuff we want like now. thanks for the video. i worked at a computer reseller in the late 90's -00's. we had loads of stuff i wish i had now.

My first PCI video card was a Trident, unfortunately it was very slow, nothing compared to ATI mach 64. S3 trio was better too.

Kinda surprised with the fact that SBC didn't have an integrated Video chip. Most SBCs I have come across have one, but you have to make a breakout cable as there isn't any space on the I/O plate. Being forced to use ISA only for graphics is rough as they are just slower. Even with an AMD 5x86 p-75 which is what that board appears to be using. It's a shame that these SBC parts are more expensive than buying a whole 486 machine though.

didnt think to use a flipper's GPIO to be a simple power switch, i got mine primarily to be an Amiibo databse, what simple script did you make for just controlling those pins?
@RetroGameCouch
@RetroGameCouch Жыл бұрын
You can simply go to the GPIO menu and select 5V on GPIO. Pin 1 will then output 5 volts.

No PhilsComputerLab test suite? Should be an instant requirement these days for channels testing old dos machines. Would have been nice to know more specs. CPU speed? Ram speed and timings? How much ram? No mouse? Doom? Quake? Duke3D?

Really interesting card, but the test was underwhelming. You tried Wolfenstein and some of its clones. Blake Stone is using the Wolfenstein engine, so of course if one works, so will the other. I was looking to seeing newer stuff like Doom, Duke 3D or even Quake, may be some benchmarks.

A flipper zero to bridge two wires?

No. The ISA backplane would only power on if I supplied 5V and GND to two of the PS-ON pins.
