Superb video - thank you for bringing out what is such an exceptional song. Huge favor, can you build on Mike’s guitar solo that he does at concert (varies by concert) but those solos take the biscuit. Would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Mike Oldfield is the best musician of the twentieth century. Incredible genius and multi-instrumentalist. For me the best guitarist ever. Great melodies, sonorous instruments combined with such beautiful Celtic music. Mike Oldfield's music is not primitive rock n roll music to drink beer and sing along to in any bar. His music is very intelligent and considered music creation on a completely different level. Like Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach or Bethoven. I'm a musician myself and a big fan of Mike Oldfield.

@@markj2091 A friend of mine lived in the same place Oldfield composed Tubular Bells in when he was 16/17. His bedroom was in the loft, and he rarely came out for a number of months while he worked on the sections that he would eventually put on a demo tape. His dinner would be brought to his door. I listened to that album over and over as a kid.

Mike Oldfield is the vehicle that music has to manifest itself. In fact, he has been able to create any style of music and play any instrument he could think of. No one has played the guitar like him, but because he has been considered more of a multi-instrumentalist than a guitarist he has not been appreciated as he deserves in this respect.

beautiful music from Mike Olfield and maggie reilly. I've been inspired all my life of the way how Mike plays the guitar. But that scarry bass player Phill spalding was a incredible tallent bass player, he used drugs and in that time who dind't, but he played with alot of famous artists like Seal, Mick Jagger, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue and alot of other musicians. And Phil Spalding also recorded all bass tracks on The Lion King soundtrack studio album. I had the privilege to have him as a good face book friend but last year February 5th he passed away caused by hepatitis unfortunately, he realy was a good guy and will be missed by many

Mike Oldfield is by far my favorite musician, since 1987, when I first heard a song by him (Shine, with Jon Anderson). What's crazy is that many years later, my younger son ended up being in the same class with his son Jake, even going to his house for a birthday party. And Mike being Mike, was ocassionaly picking his son from school on his motorbike, despite the teachers' concerns about safety :)

Sadly Phil Spalding left us earlier this year. I had the pleasure of seeing him with Mike play this live at Wembley in 1983. I have been able to play a lot of Mike's riffs, including Ommadawn but Moonlight Shadow seems to be my blind spot as I just can't get that solo. It's the strings bend that gets me.

Thanks so much for this video. I always have wanted to play the solo of "Moonlight Shadows". Its one of my favourite guitar solos ever and I hope, within the next few days I will have mastered it. Btw, the part that reiminds you of "Jumping Jack Flash" is a technique from Spanish Guitar called Rasqueado, where you let the fingers of the right hand slide over the strings one after another. Mike Oldfield plays Spanish Guitar quite frequently on his albums.

Aren't there double strokes at the start of the melody, or is it just my brain doing tricks one me ? 😊 Been listening to that track a million time since I heard it first in 1983.... hehehe I am old! Btw... I think Mike was having a love affiar with Maggie, and maybe the bass player had the hots for her at the time, and let his feelings out on the video? ❤😁 Another thing is Mike usually use his strong fingers for the vibrato, but in this video, you can see him using the Stratocaster vibrator quite a bit. I like songs with inventive solos that go beyond the meldy of the song itself. I like the song by Limahl "Neverending Story", because you can easily do the keyboard part and transition to the guitar part. Very satisfying as a guitar player, because you have to have fun learning the instrument, There is a Danish band from the 1980s who had a cute song called "Ridder Lykke" which had a solo section by the keyboardist, but you can learn it on the guitar, and it is a good piece to learn if you are a beginner guitarist! 😊
