In this episode, I will perform three stunts as I attempt to use three types of low-quality active transportation infrastructure in my city. I will attempt to get through pedestrian barriers, stairs, and an underpass.

remarkable that there was still a relatively high level of traffic for that underpass, which I'm still trying to parse out why the hell they use traffic calming measures for ped/cyclist infrastructure instead of car infrastructure

It’s a busy intersection for alternative transportation. There’s an LRT station right there, a popular protected bike lane to the east, and another MUP running north/south that connects to the university. As you could see, the city only allows vehicles to cross the busy street so everyone else has to use the underpass.

@@bikebikenudgenudge At least there weren't crackheads offering you crack at the end of it, like they did to Tom in Calgary in that Shifter video. Or cops stopping people at the end of the overpass to inspect their bags like the Civil Rights Lawyers showed they did in Chicago to CynicalZombie.

That coiled approach to the underpass is why my bike has a throttle. I never know when I'm going to need the extra help.

That last underpass was insane, wtf did they think??

yeah we should just remove that underpass all together so cyclist stop complaining

It was designed for ADA compliance without any regard for cyclists.

When I saw the cafe beside you during the intro to stunt #3, I already knew where that was going. Having gone through that underpass myself on a regular bike, I can't imagine getting through without dismounting on a cargo bike. it's like whoever designed that bike path was having a laugh thinking of how wacky of an obstacle course he could get away with 😂

That sucks for anyone in a non motorized wheelchair too.

Plenty of barriers like that on so called bike routes in the UK. A real pain on a cargo bike and impossible on a wheelchair bike. I report them all to Sustrans.

For problem number one, I've seen a solution in my city: guerilla urbanism. Most annoying barriers have been removed (destroyed) by the public. But we have ridiculously small penalties and a relaxed police force. in America, there would probably be much more punishment for that. I can even afford to run a red light on my commute to work at a poorly set up intersection that ignores cyclists.

Nah you can steal thousands of dollars of merch from a store. Just walk in and walk out, there is no Law enforcement in the US these days. Dress in old clothes, smell like urine and pass yourself off as a homeless person and you can do almost anything tbh.

clearly you managed to do all of the challengers !! you have to remember that it is fun to do challengers, variety is the spice of life !! in the town i am in there are the same challengers and with a bit of practice i have mastered the art !! even with a bakfiest full of shopping !!

I’d call those switchbacks. They’re a space saving engineering solution that are void of proper design & user focus. Difficult for traditional bikes too!

Intresting video topic and well put together. Randomly got recommended this video so the algroithim probably likes you. If you want to grow your channel i recommend talking with less pauses and with more energy should help your engagement.

Wow yeah, this is horrible infrastructure. Best scenario it was designed by people who have never ridden a bike in their life, but probably it was designed by people who just hate cyclists.

0:27 For a second there, you scared me; I thought you were quitting YT. There aren't enough good urbanism/cycling channels. 1:15 _This video demonetized for promoting dangerous behaviors… despite "do not attempt" disclaimer._ 1:37 UGH! Anti-bike turnstiles are so infuriating. If I want to risk my life riding on a 10m long paved path, that should be MY choice. (Likewise, if I want to risk riding on an unpaved hiking path in the woods on my MOUNTAIN-BIKE, that should also be my choice. 😒 In fact, the tight turnstiles in the hiking paths in the woods even block larger pedestrians, especially if they have bulky winter clothing on, so I guess, if you're trying to hike to lose weight, too bad, go "jog on"… in the road. 🤷) 1:55 This is suuuch a greeeaaat use of tax-dollars, bikes definitely can't go around that barrier. 🙄👍 … 2:00 Oh, lovely, there's more of them. 😒 2:04 Pft, who does she think she is? Doesn't she know the sidewalk's for a regular walkin', not for fancy walkin' or for wheelchairin'‽ 😒 _Wheelchairs belong on the road. Crips (and Bloods) fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles._ (That second part is directly paraphrasing a lissencephalitic comment from the video about Edmonton removing a protected bike-lane five months after installing it.) 2:30 Yup, I've seen this issue MANY times, and for multiple different reasons. The city is so poorly designed and/or has such garbage laws, that pedestrians and cyclists have to waste time and energy to go 1-2km up the road, cross, then go 90% of the way back instead of just go straight to their destination. 😒 This is one such example. Another is the absurd notion of one-way sidewalks and bikepaths. Another is long, unbroken stretches of curb-lined stroads. 2:42 Um, I think it's safe to assume you survived, otherwise, how did this video get posted? I suppose your wife could've edited and uploaded it, but there's a fair chance the video's existence is a spoiler. 🤷 Dang, now we won't be on the edges of our seats. 🤦 3:47 Annoyance? 🤨 Um, you're clearly not a stunt person. The stairs look like FUN on bike or skateboard. Do an indy grab as you ollie onto the rail then grind across the overpass and land a frontside 180. Or just ride a bike down and across. … 4:07 YES!!!!! Bike down these stairs! 😀 4:21 Your bathroom scale wasn't mean to you, it's just concerned. 6:58 Yeah, I've seen a bunch like this. It's a very sharp angle because you're on the "wrong" side of the street. You're "supposed" to go up the road to the next intersection, the cross over, then come back and enter that path at a shallow angle in the "correct" direction. (It's just a matter of time until they make the sidewalk one-way as well.) 9:02 The new REV in Montréal is basically just a bike-lane running along beside the road and shunting down into underpasses. And Montréalers are chuffed with it. 🤦

This just to show that cyclist never satisfied with anything they will just complain.... that 90 degree pedestrian barrier also implemented near darling harbor Sydney dedicated bike-line , the only reason why its there because cyclist refuse to slowdown on on rare pedestrian crossing on trams stop.. their solution use the single lane car road. but how about the traffic light that car have to follow well we are cyclist we can just ignore that red light.
