I will be on the foreshore tomorrow doing some eyes-only pedestrian mudlarking in trainers. Then, beers. Then, East Side Tattoo Studio in Shoreditch. Then, beers. This is my 13th trip to this city in 8 years and I love it more every time I'm here. Why is it so hard for American living in the Netherlands to get a visa! (you know any single ladies desperate to get married to a 6' 3" bearded menace?)

Your videos are simply fascinating. I recently bought a metal detector to use when it gets warmer here. I'll be hitting the Ohio River banks, but don't expect to find much but garbage, beer cans, probably drug needles, stuff like that. The lead trade tokens you found, are they English? And what year do you think they may be from and the values?

Hi Si, i am a Trade Bead Collector and Seller. Your friend is partially correct that the cobalt blue donut bead @15:06 is "African, Dogon". However these are annular, wound, Antique German Trade Beads (I believe once called Dutch before more Research showed German in origin if I'm not mistaken), from the African Trade , "Trade Beads" that were/are worn by the Dogan Peoples of Mali, Africa. These are late 19th Century. They are also found in green and clear. New reproductions are also made. Love your Explores and Finds! Thanks!

Hello Si, and congrats to Darcy and Sandy. Another lovely mudlark video you’ve shared with your fans. I thought the pink stones looked a bit rough around the edges and a strange colour to be rubies. But I’m not an expert by any means. Some days you get lots of pipes, others, pins, others marbles and today was a lead token day. Well done to all. Matt looked quite distinguished in his glasses, even if in old togs! I looked and looked at that token you thought was a bloke with goatee etc. I could only see a turtle and a long necked bird if held at a ninety degree angle. I doubt that there was either, but I tried. Very interesting making your own tokens. The big blow torch seemed a bit of overkill for such delicate pieces. The first was the best result, so get some more gas for the little torch next time. I’ll bet they’ll sell for a pretty penny with all the shopping you have to do for the requirements! But well worth it. Keep doing what you’re doing mate. We love it!❤️🦘

Hi si ; as regards the fossilised wood breaking up so you leave it ; I’m in dorset and we find fossils in shale ; most people leave them as they breakup , however if you are careful and can get them home I soak them in watered down water based varnish ; then let it dry they will stay together - I’ve got a large ammonite in shale which I’ve had for at least 25 years now 😊👍

"Dombey and Son" is the name of a novel by Charles Dickens! Could that button be some kind of fanboy souvenir? "Dombey and Son is a novel by English author Charles Dickens. It follows the fortunes of a shipping firm owner, who is frustrated at the lack of a son to follow him in his footsteps; he initially rejects his daughter's love before eventually becoming reconciled with her before his death." -- wikipedia

Carry a sandwich size ziplock with you for the old wood bits. Put in a bit of fresh water with a bit of pva glue. Then rub it down gently wit a bit more glue when you get home. Leave on a bit of wax paper with plastic wrap loosely on top in a location with out direct Sun. As it drys the glue will have soaked in and help stabilize the wood.

I just recieved some of your finds, nice bottles,a stoneware piece, very cool,so thanks, and I will give a positive Etsy review for sure! I have also purchased from Mudpies, they re purpose the most amazing items. And Belived Nicola, she sent me,amongst other things, like pipes,an incredible Codd bottle. It is shockingly beautiful, and I am honored to own it. Regarding token casting: Consider zinc,American 1 cent pieces can be melted on the stovetop, just a bit of copper slag needs to be removed from the top,I use a fork that just gathers it up. One downside, the molten metal kills the mold,so they are one-time only castings, you have to remove the clay mold away, but worth it,like lost wax casting! Anyway, thanks for your videos, they are SUPER

The art clays come in silver too. It’s pure silver which is purer than 925 so you can actually get it assayed. 50 grams actually goes a long way, you don’t need a lot and you’re best rolling it out to about 4mms thick. You heat it with the blow torch till it glows white hot then once it’s cooled you can burnish it and polish it. Give it a go!
