A 50 BMG produces an enormous amount of energy per trigger pull. Can you silence the immense amount of powder being put out by such a weapon? How effective can this possibly be? Today the Garand Thumb Science team investigates.

Holy shit the difference in the sound if your voice has changed in the last year. I remember watching this a year ago, just came back to re-cap for shits and giggles. Thanks for guiding me to SDI, you may not need to be certified to be a gunsmith but it makes all the difference in knowledge. Its like comparing the difference in the work of cheap workers outside of home depot vs a certified contractor. The signature of the work speaks for itself. I talk about guns so much nowadays and people just are shocked with the things I tell them about what I learned. Yet still, people will always talk down on SDI for “not teaching shit” but then you ask “okay, whats fire lapping?” and they pull their phone out to google it. God bless you, and if you’re reading this Micah, have some stacks of cash around you, thats how Michel Jordan survived AIDs for so long in south park.

The fact that Barrett was able to modify the M82 so that it could be suppressed is also amazing. Being short recoil operated, the amount of mass you attach to the barrel directly affects the rifle's ability to function. So whatever voodoo space magic Ronnie had to do to make that even possible is pretty fucking bad ass.
@Horseshoecrabwarrior
@Horseshoecrabwarrior Жыл бұрын
Probably some wizardry with the brake. With the brake covered, the motion of the barrel under recoil might be different
@pyro1047
@pyro1047 Жыл бұрын
This also used to be a problem with handguns like the M1911, or that use the Browning tilting barrel design. Since the slide is unlocked by the barrels movement, the added weight of the suppressor would often cause jams and feeding issues. This has mostly been solved by now, either with lighter suppressors, or by having a spring loaded attachment point that allows the barrel to jolt back and tip without moving the whole mass of the suppressor, just the spacer which then retracts with the spring.

@@arothewanderer9451 there's a key word that people miss about SDI training. If you want to learn the basics of gunsmithing and maybe have a GI bill to burn up, it's the perfect way to go. If you think you are going to graduate school and compete with Doug Turnbull, you will be disappointed. It's also what you put into it. There is so much involved with gunsmithing that you will quickly realize that you might want to pick a niche in the industry and stick to it. It's not particularly hard, but some of the projects take time to set. So I always jump on it as soon as possible. You can sometimes kinda work ahead a bit, but don't go too far with that.
