It's funny seeing Alear being surrounded by an absolute moshpit of enemies at the end of the later levels

This is a pretty normal strategy for many fire emblem games to make one super unit. I'd say the hardest challenge would be a max deployment, no Emblem rings (other than in forced chapters), no bond rings, no DLC, no online features, no skill inheritance, everyone must survive, maddening run. I'm sure people will do it, but that doesn't sound like fun either.

You glossed over chapter 15 waaay too much. Keeping Seadall alive while being pincered can be a nightmare.

This was a really nice run to watch unfold and pretty helpful/reassuring to know about all this! I played Hard using Dodge tanking for my main three (favorite) characters/units so I was planned to do something similar when playing Maddening, good to know it is entirely possible even if it would probably sound tedious. One of the most entertaining things for me in Fire Emblem is usually focusing on either 1 or a small group of units then just letting em destroy everything through the game, dodge tanking & crits are just satisfying.

I really was thinking the enemy stats would catch up to you eventually but I guess in this game the caps are ludicrous enough that you can just... literally outspeed the scaling.

I did the same challenge yesterday and beat it. I must say it took so many turn for each map since the mobs didn't care to attack me at all. Hardest maps to me is chapter 15, Roy and Byleth paralogue.

Yes u can, i completed my run yesterday of Alear Solo Maddening with Thief class + Lyn Emblem + Micaiah Engravement 40 avoid and daggers 1-2 range +5 with avoid 30 skill and immune to freeze skill/pair up skill.

Holy shit, the chapter 4 strat to use moment from Sigurd was actually giga brain and I feel like an idiot - I was CONVINCED a true maddening solo (like what you're doing) was impossible, because when I tried i literally could not do damage to that boss - but I was using marth emblem for the extra avo + rapier vs armored knights however, I do see you have the feh weps and I wonder if that was a big contributing factor to help be able to deal damage? in my marth attempt I didn't have feh weps, either way tho the momentum tech is very smart -- the hardest part of soloing is the early chapters, but it easily snowballs from there with all the levels i think low-man challenges are hard, I did a lords-only maddening run and it had me sweating lmao

What are the colored rotating comet things on some tiles? I assume they're added by having online mode enabled, since I didn't see them when i played Also this is basically the optimal way to play with how OP Alear gets compared to everyone else. I used other units in my playthrough, and even then, if I did solo Alear, it usually made things go faster because everyone else is so much weaker that using them felt like a waste of time Also, I was really surprised to hear persona 5 strikers music in the background of this video. Good taste!

How do you get Alear to wolf knight? Do you need to change him to a class that uses daggers first?

I was able to kill the boss at the end of chapter 26 even after everyone but Alear died. And I wasn't even half way done. Though it took about 2 hours to do it, which sux. But I would call that easy. It was just hard casual tho.

For me, FE3H is actually easier with only Byleth and I love playing games like Pokemon or fire emblem with only one character so this vid was an instant click.

Having tried a Solo Maddening run while trying to keep everyone alive I can say without a doubt that it's way harder, if not close to impossible compared to a "killing everyone off" run since after Alear's stats get too high, all the enemy AI does is bee-line straight to the low stat units in the early recruit missions. This gives you at most, 2-3 turns to rush to a boss to end a map, if the map objective is a boss, that is. Chapter 7 was the first one where this was pretty obvious since Alcryst and his gang would die almost immediately. Keeping Jean alive in his mission is close to impossible as well unless you get really really lucky with him dodging hits before you get overwhelmed. Chapter 8 is the furthers such a run comes since you cant get Ivy down quickly enough before either Amber or Diamant dies.

I've been frustrated while playing engage because i can't develop evenly the whole cast of characters while progressing the story. In a way, I think your video show me why: engage is designed for small teams using your approach. Great video.

what is funny is you would probably die to normal skirmishes since they scale to your the highest level and if you dont get good stat boosts on level up, you will be fighting a ton of enemies that all bum rush you right away, alot of players hate how they made the level up system for weaker characters since the optional battles for training always scale to the highest level and enemies and just bum rush and attack the weakest characters first, making the whole training exp stupid especially on maddening where you cant just have Alear die and reset to keep exp gain from previous battle log.

I'm gonna be honest, I can't tell if you were joking or not saying people think Engage is the hardest in the series. I thought most acknowledge it is one of the easier Fire Emblems even on Maddening.

I regret watching this video. Not because it's bad or dumb. But because I feel even more crappy for /STILL/ not being able to beat this final battle on Hard. I'm not a novice at the FE franchise so I refuse to drop to Normal. But I honestly don't get what I'm doing wrong. Even my best units just cannot deal more than like 30 damage to Sombron in 1 turn. And too many of my units are tied up keeping the infinite reinforcements in check. I haven't played the game in a month or so now because taking a break. But each attempt I try turns into a 2 hour grind slog where I make it to the 3rd round of Dark Emblems but finally fall to the battle of attrition. I don't understand what tactic I'm not thinking of, but all this cool 1 turn kill stuff is so far beyond my skill cap I can't even. And when I ask for help, people just laugh and are shocked that it's too hard for me. sigh

I would have made Alear a thief with Corrin's ring.

I have never heard anyone say it's one of the hardest in the series. Even if you factor in post-Awakening/Three Houses, the latter is much harder, albeit in an unfair way that most people just cheese cause of that. The best I've heard is it's as good and hard as Conquest Lunatic.

If you can solo the game, then it is pretty far from being the hardest by a long shot with a long bow.

I fucking despise the chain attack mechanic. It removes all skill and is so cheap, I understand why they did it so you couldn't blow through maps with or a few super strong units, which I hate a ton because that is how I like to play Fire Emblem. I like to think and strategize on the earlier chapters and be smart and careful then be rewarded with OP arse mofo's that can just shrek shit through the rest of the game. Its disgusting fighting enemies that do 0 damage at 31% hit rate then they suddenly get the fuckin' 4 damage at 80% hit chains going. Freaking' idiots! Having to have Corrin's Pair Up or have her as a ring is annoying AF too since I like to run the EXP boost from Edelgard/Byleth and the Tiki stat growth skill. Love this game but its so tedious how slow you level up and how punishing it is for all the wrong reasons.

A maddening+ difficulty would be nice. Less like lunatic+ hawkeye+ and vantage+, (no absurdly inflated stats pls) and more like they should give bosses extra skills and better weapons or smarter AIs... Chapter 17 is actually incredibly easy because only Griss moves at you, then the lizard and sniper after a couple turns. Marni and Mauv move once you get into her range. The rest only move when you get to the far west lizard. Maddening+ should have them all just rush you at once 😂 Fliers are broken as usual and should've been nerfed. 4-5 movement would probably be acceptable. I am glad at least they're going to add new classes in the DLC, although that's probably gonna be a bow wyvern, 1 other useful class, and then the rest that no one uses.
