They ended having a little more than the original requested division, and also avoided a left over. In the original division, they would get: 17/2 = 8.5 | 17/3 = 5.67 | 17/9 = 1.89 8.5+5.67+1.89 = 16.06 17 - 16.06 = 0.94 So, in the original requested division, 0.94 camels would be left. The original equation was not satisfied, but they came to a heuristical solution.

Wrong. Neither the author of the video nor you explained what was wrong with the will: the fractions didn't add up to 1. That was why they had a fraction left over. Now try figuring out how you could've solved the problem WITHOUT adding another camel.
