Ultimately, all any of us can do is recognize our mistakes, and then institute a three-step process: Admit it. Handle it. Learn from it. Thank you for being willing to admit your mistakes, and for showing the rest of the world how people of conscience handle them and learn from them. Stay safe, be strong, and stay kind.

This was definitely one of my favorite Kurzgesagt videos. Unfortunately bias is a big part of human nature; so many people -sometimes without even realizing- prefer sided, simple, conclusive explanations to facts, realistic statements that reminds them that the world is complex, and often very difficult to analyze, and that it's very common for humans to be wrong.

I think ur over estimating how hard and how rare these videos are. Everyone does this, atleast the big channels. It's used as a money grab for views. Its usually called "Reacting to my old videos" etc. Where they reflect on them and talks about how bad their camera or microphone quality was etc. Pretty sure you just made this comment to beg for likes. However i think the most respect should go to that their deleting their most viewed videos as they have the most monetization value in them. Not many would do that at risk of not gaining more cash.

Hilarious that Kurzgesagt is apologizing for giving us biased or incomplete information while many "real" news outlets just create information out of thin air and shamelessly present them as facts. I agree with @@SteelSkin667. Even if you make the most objective video about a subject, the fact that you made it about that subject and not another is a bias. A cold hard spreadsheet filled with correct numbers can be biased. The best you can do is try, be honest, keep an open mind and encourage others to do their own research and come to their own conclusions, as Kurzgesagt just did.

I (helped you translate the game) actually am in soft opposition to the latest trends in the Kurzgesagt channel. It seems my little attempts to make people look more critical on these extremely theoretical narratives actually motivated Kurzgesagt to either attempt make an apologetic video, or honestly try to address the criticism. The whole video on loneliness is such a boogie trying to appear very profound to people who suddenly thought that someone made a smart video on something they also struggle with, and so it is true and they are thankful for the insight. Incorrect. Their latest videos are just big boogies with either "what if" or pseudo-scientific attempts to appear top educator. Truth is, the frogs... and this channel is becoming more and more an entertainment for the masses, and not actually a "research based on scientific, unchallenged methods".

This is really beautiful, I just discovered the channel and have been listening to/watching pretty much nothing but for a week now.. When this one auto played I truly expected it to be six minutes of overly assuring self praise & am delighted to see that it’s not. Modifying our opinions when given new info, reflecting on our past mistakes, admitting them, & taking steps to align our behavior with those newfound truths seems so obvious in theory, but as anyone who has interacted with or been a human before can tell you it isn’t always in practice. This pattern of growth is important for everyone, but especially content creators and influencers.

he is EXTREMELY biased to the left and he basically admits in this video that he caves to left wing "fact checkers". take his meat video for example, if meat was so bad for my health, why do i have such low cholesterol, its the amount of calories that influence cholesterol levels, not the enzymes in the meat, in fact meat proteins EAT AWAY at cholesterol and excess calcium, it just so happens meat has a higher caloric density than fruits and vegetables, so we need a more BALANCED diet, not a meat free one. thats not even getting started on the economics of it which ill describe in my "why meat is good" video. he should know this stuff, but no ,better to be in his "optimistic nihilist" echo chamber.

@@XBLspartanx170 The meat video definitely broke my trust in Kurzgesagt, after I had shared other videos they made both in and out of my locus of knowledge. This video is a step towards redemption, and a claim they intend to do something about it, but the problems with that video have not been dealt with yet. Meanwhile people will continue to watch it and be bullied into taking actions that may harm their health, without having been informed of that side of the issue.

This was such a wonderful thing to see. The level of integrity on display here is astounding. In a world where it has become normalized to make baseless claims to further agendas, it could seem almost trivial to apologize for those two examples. However, the standards Kurzgesagt hold themselves to are truly what make the videos stand out, so it's heartwarming to see even videos of such high quality being recognized as having potential for negative impact. Thank you for identifying shortcomings based on your impact, instead of the results you get from it, and thank you for continuing to make such valuable, educational content.

Do you actually follow this? Your videos regularly feature absolute crackpots who are universally rejected by real experts and academics. I seriosuly doubt you read any academic articles refuting the stupidity of guys like Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk and Graham Hancock. Whatever "research" you do in your videos is absolute gaurbage. Funny how the people who most regularly praise "admitting when you're wrong" almost never do it, and just wish that everyone else would admit their crackpot nonsense was right.

@@vaughnmuench7876 It is perfectly obvious that they do not do any real research for their videos. They skim an article or blog post by a crackpot and make it into a shitty infographics video. Many topics are hotly debated by scientists, and many have been settled science for hundreds of years. But these idiots don't give a shit about actual scientific research or studies in philosophy, so they post nonsense about ancient humans in Antartica and other such things that the entire scientific community knows for a fact is not true. And tons of their videos feature crackpot "philosophy" from people who are NOT philosophers, do not study philosophy, and are universally rejected by actual philosophers and academics. And now they're claiming that they're going to make a self-reflecting video? lol Are they going to tell their viewers that all of their videos are considered absolute bunk by the entire scientific, philosophical and academic community? Of course not, they're going to congradulate themselves for being awesome and "open minded" enough to go against settled science and publish crap. Kurzgesagt gives a real scientific overview in their videos and obviosuly tries to do a considerable amount of research with fact checking by researchers. Their drug video is probably their only "bad" video and it simply failed to bring up the objections to the ideas presented, and did not make it clear to their audience that the topic is debated and controversial. Good on them, but everything stated in the video is bascally accurate and is a position many scientists in that field hold. After Skool regularly posts gaurbage that ZERO scientists, philosophers or academics support and in fact openly reject.

This is such a great video. Hank and I talk a lot about the constant risk of "distortion through simplification." As you point out here, often the unequivocal videos with the hottest takes perform better than nuanced videos acknowledging complexity. Part of what makes Kurzgesagt special is that you always strive to make the best videos, rather than following the incentives to just maximize audience. One other note: I've seen in comments below lots of people saying versions of, "Just don't talk about politics." I think this is an oversimplification, because politics touches everything human. You can't talk about meat or drugs or organic food or even loneliness in an "apolitical" way, because choices about how we govern and regulate our communities shape all those things. That some facets of human experience (the refugee crisis, for instance) are heavily politicized does not actually mean that they are necessarily more "political." I don't think we can ask or expect any KZfaq channel (or any human enterprise) not to be "political." I think we can only ask it to be careful, and to strive for rigor and accuracy. -John

Kurzgesagt may be one of the few creators on the KZfaq or even the whole internet who care so much about its audience and deliver such high quality content. Thank you.

I like your videos because it gets me interested and gives me a starting off point. I go to your sources and then ,after, go out looking for more info. I like your simplification. Technical terms are unnesisaty for trying to get people interested and giving a summery. The way you do it is fine.

Massive respect to the whole team! Admitting flaws and improving from them is crucial, particularly in today's public discourse.

Especially since they pulled two videos that didn't meet their standards. That's not an easy thing to do and it really shows that they value self-improvement.

Admitting flaws is admirable but to try to scrub the evidence of those flaws takes it in a different direction.

@@microcontrolledbot that's not how I see it. In scientific work, if a published paper turns out to be full of errors and not up to par, it will be removed or listed as inaccurate. And Kurtz didn't just dirty delete everything and ignored that they ever happened, they made THIS video right here directly acknowledging the issues with those videos and why they were removed. That is the opposite of deleting evidence...

Mad respect for the team. Acknowledging mistakes and putting effort to earn the trust of viewers is a rare thing for YT channels to do. Can't wait for the new addiction video!

I think they were not directly trying to earn viewer's trust. They made this video to clarify a mistake that was done and openly say two of their most viewed videos will be deleted, being transparent and honest with us. I think their reason is simply matter of "sharing quality work", not an economic strategy.
