Short answer: NO Sony doesn't support the use of third party adapters because Sony will not allow you to install the software required for the Dongle/Adapter to actually work. So while you can easily plug and play any USB Microphone or Headphones, you can not use other USB Devices such as Dongles, Adapters, Printers etc. You CAN use USB Microphones for example because Sony works directly with third party manufacturers of such devices and incorporates their drivers in the console OS.

Absolutely right Robert. I use a TP-Link AC1900 on my old Windows laptop and the effect was dramatic - a tenfold increase in download speed, 20mb/s up to 200+ mb/s. However the installation was not plug and play: I had to manually install the Windows 10 driver for the device to work. I don't think installing drivers manually is an option on a playstation. Also Playstation's o/s Orbis was not listed as a supported o/s on the TP-Link download site.

@Beth for those who dont know. When you go to Set up wifi, When You have the WIFI NETWORK you want Selected Hit Option on Controler over that network It lets you switch from Auto To 2.5hrz to 5hrz network mode To increase ya speeds

This did not work. There were no results. Netgear wifi adapters require a driver in order to run. PS4 will not accept it as it does not have drivers for the OpenBSD distro it's running. This would work on a Windows PC not on a console.

You cant install software to make the dongle work. Ps4 wifi is trash. If you cant run a lan cable from your router and you need better wifi, or your wifi card is dead, get a wifi range extender that works with your router and sit it next to your ps4. Make sure it has a lan output. Your main router and the extender will connect to eachother making a wifi bridge then you can use a short 1 foot lan cable to connect the ps4 to the extender. That is the best way to work around poor signal or a dieing wifi card (well it's not actually a "card" its build into the motherboard).

A little tidbit of information if you're using a lan cable like I am. I recently got a new router and cable modem. Even though I got a new one my speed didn't increase,. It will still stuck at 60 megabit. so I tried to doing the Wi-Fi dongle that I had laying around and of course it didn't work so I had to retrain the PS4 to work on a lan cable again. And now I get 358 megabit. So if you're not getting the speed you really expext. Try redoing the lan cable setup, you never know the NAT settings could be different.

I had one that was a Ethernet cable with a wifi adapter and it worked till the other day and jus went out so I got a usb wifi adapter and it didn’t even work so thanks for this, I’m going back to the Ethernet cable, I know for sure that will work

I never moved my System at all and I didnt switch back to wifi. I use power line adapters now. People asked me to do this video so I did those were my results. Powerline adapters work wayyy better than the wifi or this (if it worked or not)

I think you should test it using ultra fast speeds like 1gb. I'm willing to bet you getting 40mbps is about what your internet plan offers. Upgrade then try and use that WiFi dongle and get a WiFi dongle that has wifi6

I can promise her internet isn't the problem. My internet is 1gbps, my laptop hits ~400 mbps up on wifi and ~900 on LAN, my ps4 slim hits ~32 mbps up. It's just that the ps4 wifi card is crap. The problem is the driver for said dongle. Dongles aren't designed for ps4s and so don't have drivers for them.

@@KSMephisto ,No, the network card in the pro and slim models actually do support 1gb speeds. It's the PlayStation Network that blocks ultra speeds because they don't want some gamer's having a huge advantage over others in online game play. Furthermore, in order to obtain ultra speeds using your WiFi you will need to upgrade to WiFi6 somehow. Either by replacing the internal network card adapter inside the laptop or purchase an external one. Gator Cable makes great products and I believe they have an external adapter that would be perfect for you and they are running a 50% off special on literally most their inventory right now. They can be found only on eBay and they have thousands upon thousands of reviews and they have 100% feedback rating. They are amazing. On your PS4 you will never need more than 400mbps anyways in online gaming. 100mbps is plenty. Now, for downloading updates and games ,for sure I wish they would allow full speed. They should at least have their network be able to detect the difference and release the cap when downloading games. So for one, the game downloads faster and/or so you can play online without a hiccup. Anyways, I hope this helps. Also note, these external network adapters do not work on gaming consoles... only PC and laptop. Nothing you can do will get you higher than 400 something Mbps on your PS4. Be lucky you got the slim. The original PS4 is the one with the trash network card.

Al Neto you should really try powerline adapters. This was just a test cuz people asked me to do it. I only showed a small improvement so I’m still unsure myself if it works. I use powerline adapters and I love it.

Its very evident these usb wifi adapters dont work on XB/PS consoles since you need to install the netgear software to make it run on the system and that is not compatible with ps4 OR ps5. Any google search would inform you on this. That said they do work phenomenal for better reception on PC or laptops. But to whoevers reading do not buy these adapters to get better signal on consoles, they do not install. If they did dozens of searches would pop up on amazon selling them.

No, usb wifi adapters dont work on PS4 or ps5 bcause they need software to install to run them. Trust me i just did a days research trying to get one for the hotel im in on the road. Sony does not recognize 3rd party hardware on playstation unless they make money as we all know. Notice she didnt show it plugged in and working? Or the netgear software? Kinda messed up she would make this up for clicks

I contacted Sony and they said use a third party for wifi adapters because they don’t have any and so I did and the usb wifi adapter didn’t work at all, it didn’t even register a usb device in my PlayStation 4. My wifi strength is at 50% and didn’t change when I attached the usb wifi adapter. How did u get it to work?? What did you do to get it to work?

yeah man I wouldn't recommend this at all..Im pretty said i'm not sure if it even works so I wouldn't recommend that. I use power line adapters with my ps4 now and its great. I recommend that.

Hu? I don’t think you understand how this all works. If you update drivers, those are Windows drivers and stay on the PC. They don’t follow the adaptor. Not talking 💩, but you should probably educate yourself on a subject before passing off bad information. After doing this You are still using the internal WiFi radio, you aren’t using the USB WiFi. You would need to switch over somewhere in the Operating System, like in a PC. I call BS
