In 2017 I filed a disability claim and did it 100% myself..i was approved for 70 within 4 months..In Dec 2020 I filed for 100 percent 100% by myself and in 3 months I was granted 100% total and perm..they can never end or review my benefits so I get 3146.81 for life..I can even work as much as I want..A blessing indeed..this is something you can do by yourself and it is not hard at all..so long as you have the medical proof...

In all fairness to the VA; I recently was awarded SMC, without applying for it. I called VA and they explained the 60% and stated rater saw I qualified and he awarded it, as allowed.

this is the best piece of information on the entire internet in regards to "housebound". I just got awarded statutory housebound and there is so much bad information out there. You don't have to be housebound to receive it!

Disabled speech- no one around do my talking, Stage 4 Type two cancer disfigured half my face. The mustard gas and toxins from NBC school training in boot camp along with the tainted water at Camp Lejuene, some say cant believe I'm failing disability. Don't know how it works. You published this on my birth day, anyway filled out a form & they sent me back the CD medical records, and photos I sent, with letter saying something about a decision, then again 10-10EZ I'd rather go toe to toe with the place that makes decisions, where is it? years gone by- feeling a bit bitter about it. I drive anywhere w/one eye to resolve.

I received SMC(S) for 1 yr. (12 mo.'s) due to having my hip replaced (total hop replacement) right before retiring from active duty. I didn't even ask for it, VA just gave it to me. It came along in addition to my permanent VA claim decision. No major fight for it at all.

I was 90% for about 5 years. I decided to apply for unemployability. It came back they gave me 100% for one of my problems, and they said it is moot to give me unemployability. To top it off they gave me SMC housebound. I told the doctor that I rarely leave my house because of my anxiety. Oddly the VA has been calling me every week at my house for things they never called me for before. I'm thinking they are wondering if I really stay home all the time 😃

If a Veteran as myself have a service connected right knee condition that becomes worse now the left knee is bad because of overcompensation now it becomes a secondary condition to weak right knee but Doctors doesn’t want to do surgery to repair two torn meniscus to a degenerative knee joints because I am at a high risk of developing blood clots due to a pulmonary embolism and take blood thinners which limits my treatment options what course of action must I undertake.

I received SMC Homebound and 100% P&T and I didn't even ask for both. However my issues were severe. I currently receive $4400 a month with dependents. It's really not much considering cost of living but I can't complain because I also receive social security disability so that levels out the income to a comfortable living amount.

Its probably too late at this point but I have a scheduled exam on Monday for PTSD claim. Would it be beneficial to obtain an attorney to assist. The difference between how you say something could mean the difference of approval. Suggestions?

Close on the SMC for combined rating. After the first disability of 100 (no matter how you get it), your other disabilities must combine to at least 60%. it does not ahve to be a single disability rated at 60%

Can you work with SMC-S? Or is it not advised.

I have been rated 100% for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma because of in country Vietnam. I am still being seen by VA oncologist but can't receive anymore CT scans because they are damaging my kidneys. Have neuropathy in both feet, legs, hands, and receiving pain meds and meds to alleviate side effects of the chemo. On top of that I have been diagnosed with drop foot as a result of the neuropathy developed by chemo. The general physician was alarmed about my tiredness and falling asleep while driving and sent me to sleep diagnosis. I have developed severe sleep apnea (avg. number 46) and have to use VA prescribed CPAP machine. Now I am under review and it seems they want to decrease my rating. I have not been able to work since diagnosed and receiving chemo. What the hell can I do?

Hi Chris, I was first awarded SMC S for housebound. Then a year later they realized they messed up and increased that S to L for A&A. They also gave me P-1 for a slew of other SCs. So I was rated at SMC L1/2 when I got LOU of both feet. Instead of getting SMC O for 2 Ls and onto SMC R-1 with the A&A, they took away my P-1 and gave me P-2 which raised my rate to SMC-M. I have filed a 20-0996 and I am waiting on a date for a "informal conference". Do you think I can win this at this level or will they deny it and send it to the BVA? I am 100% T&P for seizure disorder and 50% for Sleep Apnea. Should I apply for SMC? I have been given different suggestions concerning this. The main thing is that if I try to apply for it that mean that I am opening my 100% T&P file back up. I DO NOT want to do that!!

Chris, I've been granted only 20% disability for a service connected right arm fracture while in service but they have denied me my sleep apnea condition, my severe back pains, cervical problems, rhinitis, shoulder pains and nervous conditions leading up to social phobia. I watched this video about a year ago and made a mental note on the criteria i.e. 100% and then a 60% rating. Being automatically entitled. LOL..I called the VA recently, yesterday. I asked them about SMC. Talk about a frigging dumb MOFO. They refuse to give a veteran a straight answer on this subject, doubt me, call them and ask. My conversation went something like this. Hello, I'm currently waiting for my COPD rating of 60% to go up to 100% because I'm on oxygen 24/7 and I have another rating at 60% will I qualify for SMC? Well, that depends on many things. So I ask depends on what for instance? Well we can't give you a decision on the phone that is for the rating department. I said "I'm not asking for a decision." Im asking "If I have a rating of 100% for my COPD and another rating of 60% will I quality for SMC?" "SIR WE CAN NOT GIVE YOU A DECISION OVER THE PHONE."

Any VA claim always makes me laugh...since I didn't complain of anything in Desert Storm, I was told there can be no connection. Since the military didn't give me my medical records I don't have them and was told the Army didn't keep them. Kudos to all those who did the right thing, but for me, I'm screwed & that is something I have to accept. I had a tumor, it was removed, and left a lot of damage. Since I didn't have or complain of the tumor on leaving Desert Storm, the letter said I have no case. Oh and the best one: I lived outside the US as a civilian, after getting out of the Army, so I'm not eligible for anything, since I could have got my problems by living outside the US.
