In this video, I explain how you can use studio monitor speakers as regular computer speakers and also go over some of the pros and cons of doing so.
My setup uses a Macbook Pro, Yamaha HS7 speakers and a Focusrite Scarlett Audio Interface.

So I use studio monitors for my PC listening experience, whether it be gaming, movies, or just listening to music. I use a pair of Focal Alpha 50 Evo with an Adam Audio T10S subwoofer and run it through a universal audio apollo solo. This type of listening setup is not for those that want the exaggerated bass and treble frequencies. This is for those that want here pure sound that hits your ears the way the developers of the game, movie, or song intended it to be heard. Thats what I was after and that's why I run this setup.

I have a question about using them as computer speakers - since they have a flat frequency response, wouldn't EQing them just fix it? And with an EQ software with profiles it'd make switching between the profiles for different scenarios easy and fast.

I do exactly that. I also boost basses and trebles to my taste when mixing music (but only for monitoring), otherwise I'd unconsciously add too much bass/treble to my mix and I'd want have it flat rather than colored. ;-)

I'm thinking of using studio monitors as PC speakers for my new setup and I'd love to have EQ profiles for watching movies. What would you recommend? I'm new to this, haha

@@ericsplittgerber5154 depends on the genre your preferences - if you're gonna watch movies with a lot of music or wanna have good-sounding music - as many music producers say, the magic is in the mids (the frequencies in the middle of your hearing range). Otherwise, high bass for action - explosions, more energy and such, and high treble for speach and clarity.

Thanks your intro was very helpful. I have an audio interface and two studio monitors for recording my version of Smoke on the Water. But I also like to listen to mps on my pc, and I have a set of Logitech speakers and a woofer. I was hoping to be able to get rid of the Logitech speakers as that is less clutter and wires and space in my studio. But it looks like I need to keep them

Hi! Thank you for your short but useful videos on the two methods of connecting the passive speakers. What mixer would you use if you needed to connect two different audio interfaces to one set of speakers? Do you think Schiit Sys would be a good choice?

Tysm. I almost bought studio monitors not knowing they aren’t the best solution! (For my use, I just wanted to upgrade my desktop speakers; and as you can guess, yes I’m an audio noob :-) ) Luckily I saw your video. Thx for your info!

What is a "full experience" and why would boosting bass and other boosted frequencie make it better? What's more immersive? I would expect it to be speakers that sound the most REALISTIC

I choose studio monitor for my PC because I play electric guitar through amp sim. I want speakers which don't color my sound. The tradeoff is watching movie or playing game will be less exciting because studio monitor isn't made for that kind of activity. Just as Lemmy says, "You win some, you lose some."

Dang, I wanted to play and record music (vocals and guitar). But I don't like singing with headphones on. Sounds like I need studio monitor speakers for recording, but I don't want to ruin the sound when watching videos online. So it sounds like I need both kinds of speakers, but I don't really want 4 of them on my desk. I wonder if I could connect the audio interface to the PC speakers and get good enough sound for playing and recording music.

Thanks for the vid. I have a PC and Scarlet 8i6 connected with USB C cable on both ends.. I have the Focusrite USB sound option in sound settings but it does not play anything. One more thing. So I understand the flat response, but could that be fixed by using some eq software installed on the PC?
